چکیده

There have been discussions about the possible application of super conducting RF cavities in a future muon collider Such RF cavities are expected to work in the frequency range of about MHz which makes the cavity diameter to be about meters for a typi cal elliptical shape Concerns regarding the vibrations induced by Lorentz force in such cavities directed us to investigate alternative cavity geometries In this write up several RF cavity geometries are compared in an e ort to seek adequate candidates The simulation code MAFIA version was used to obtain key parameters for comparison Di erent cavity geometry has superiority over the others in terms of mechanical rigidity compactness or a lower peak magnetic eld ratio Bpeak Eacc The preliminary results presented here are intended to demonstrate that several options are available to achieve an ideal cavity geometry according to the pre determined design priority These results are yet to be optimized The objective of the study is to nd suitable cavity geometries while keeping the following parameters xed

RF R&D for Muon Ionization Cooling Channels

Large emittance muon beam must be reduced or cooled both longitudinally and transversely before it can be accelerated in an accelerator complex for a neutrino factory or a muon collider. In practice, ionization cooling is considered to be one of the most promising transverse cooling schemes for muon beams. When traversing an ionization cooling channel, which consists of absorbers and low freque...

SRF for Muon Colliders

Interest in the Muon Colliders is growing [1]. Electronpositron colliders beyond 2 TeV CM energy are likely to limited by background from beamstrahlung, and proton colliders beyond 20 TeV CM are likely to be limited by the sheer size of the multi-hundred km circumference. Being 200 times more massive than electrons, muons do not suffer from beamstrahlung limits. A 3 TeV muon collider is likely ...

MICE: The International Muon Ionization Cooling Experiment∗

Muon storage rings have been proposed for use as a source of high-energy neutrino beams (the Neutrino Factory) and as the basis for a high-energy lepton-antilepton collider (the Muon Collider). The Neutrino Factory is widely believed to be the machine of choice for the search for leptonic CP violation while the Muon Collider may prove to be the most practical route to multi-TeV lepton-antilepto...

New Possibilities for Superconducting Cavity Testing at Cornell University

Cornell is testing superconducting cavities for many different purposes: system development for CESR, supporting technology transfer of CESR SRF systems to storage ring light sources around the world, collaboration with the world-wide TESLA project, collaboration with Muon Collider/Neutrino Factory projects, developing an Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) based synchrotron light source in collaborati...

200mhz Nb-cu Cavities for Muon Acceleration

As a first step toward a muon collider, a neutrino factory is being actively studied. The neutrino factory calls for nearly 500 meters of 200 MHz SRF cavities to provide 7.5 GeV. The desired gradient is in the range of 15 -17 MV/m at a Q of . Nb-Cu is the technology of choice driven mainly by the cost concern. A Cornell/CERN collaboration was established to address the unique challenges imposed...
