A note on the MST heuristic for bounded edge-length Steiner trees with minimum number of Steiner points

چکیده
We give a tight analysis of the MST heuristic recently introduced by G.-H. Lin and G. Xue for approximating the Steiner tree with minimum number of Steiner points and bounded edge-lengths. The approximation factor of the heuristic is shown to be one less than the MST number of the underlying space, de ned as the maximum possible degree of a minimum-degree MST spanning points from the space. In particular, on instances drawn from the rectilinear (resp. Euclidean) plane, the MST heuristic is shown to have tight approximation factors of 3, respectively 4.

Algorithms for the power-p Steiner tree problem in the Euclidean plane
We study the problem of constructing minimum power-p Euclidean k-Steiner trees in the plane. The problem is to find a tree of minimum cost spanning a set of given terminals where, as opposed to the minimum spanning tree problem, at most k additional nodes (Steiner points) may be introduced anywhere in the plane. The cost of an edge is its length to the power of p (where p ≥ 1), and the cost of ...
متن کاملApproximating Minimum Steiner Point Trees in Minkowski
Given a set of points, we define a minimum Steiner point tree to be a tree interconnecting these points and possibly some additional points such that the length of every edge is at most 1 and the number of additional points is minimized. We propose using Steiner minimal trees to approximate minimum Steiner point trees. It is shown that in arbitrary metric spaces this gives a performance differe...
متن کاملA new class of iterative Steiner tree heuristics with good performance
The minimum rectilinear Steiner tree (MRST) problem is very important for such aspects of physical layout as global routing and wiring estimation. Virtually all previous heuristics for computing rectilinear Steiner trees begin with a minimum spanning tree (MST) topology and rearrange edges to induce Steiner points. This paper gives a more direct approach which makes a significant departure from...

Given a connected graph G = (V, E) with non-negative edge costs, and a set of " special " nodes S ⊂ V , a subgraph of G is a Steiner tree, if it is a tree that spans (connects) all the (" special ") nodes in S. The Steiner Tree problem is to find a Steiner Tree of minimum weight (cost). Steiner Tree is an important NP-hard problem that is often encountered in practice. Examples include design o...
متن کاملSteiner Tree Problem with Minimum Number of Steiner Points and Bounded Edge-Length
In this paper, we study the Steiner tree problem with minimum number of Steiner points and bounded edge-length (STPMSPBEL), which asks for a tree interconnecting a given set of n terminal points and a minimum number of Steiner points such that the Euclidean length of each edge is no more than a given positive constant. This problem has applications in VLSI design, WDM optimal networks and wirel...
