Recognising moving hand shapes

چکیده
This paper represents a new hand shape representation technique that characterises the finger-only topology of the hand, by adapting an existing technique from speech signal processing. From a moving hand sequence, the tracking algorithm determines the centre of the largest convex subset of the hand, using a combination of pattern matching and condensation algorithms. A hand shape feature represents the topological formation of the finger-only regions of the hand using a Linear Predictive Coding parameter set called cepstral coefficients. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of detecting the shape feature from motion sequences.

Modelling and Recognising Spatio-Temporal Hand Gestures with an Uncalibrated Camera
Tracking highly articulated 3-D objects such as human hands with an uncalibrated camera is not an easy task. In addition to changes in position, such objects change their shape and appearance with time. We present a robust tracker for such cases which works well in spite of cases of other similar moving objects, and background clutter. Our hand gesture analysis system is based on such a tracker...

Determination and analysis of vibration behavior of structures for at least first few natural frequencies and mode shapes needs several sensors to be connected at different non node points and exciting the structure at one point. Other method for determination of first few mode shapes is to excite several points of the structure at once and sensing the response from one point. Both methods nee...

An algorithmic approach for static and dynamic gesture recognition utilising mechanical and biomechanical characteristics
We propose a novel approach for recognising static and dynamic hand gestures by analysing the raw data streams generated by the sensors attached to the human hands. We utilise the concept of 'range of motion' in the movement of fingers and exploit this characteristic to analyse the acquired data for recognising hand signs. Our approach for hand gesture recognition addresses two major problems: ...
متن کاملSimple Surface SegmentationDr
Methods are presented for the extraction of surface patches from simple geometric shapes from 3D range data. These provide useful cues for recognising the objects visible in the scene. The geometric shapes considered are planes, spheres, cylinders, and ruled surfaces. Test results based on both Monte Carlo simulation and real range images are presented.
