Dress Induction and the Burnside Quotient Green Ring

چکیده
We define and study the Burnside quotient Green ring of a Mackey functor, introduced in our MSRI preprint [16]. Some refinements of Dress induction theory are presented, together with applications to computation results for K-theory and L-theory of finite and infinite groups.

Burnside rings
1 Let G be a finite group. The Burnside ring B(G) of the group G is one of the fundamental representation rings of G, namely the ring of permutation representations. It is in many ways the universal object to consider when looking at the category of G-sets. It can be viewed as an analogue of the ring Z of integers for this category. It can be studied from different points of view. First B(G) is...
متن کاملGreen functors, crossed G-monoids, and Hochschild constructions
Let G be a finite group, and R be a commutative ring. This note proposes a generalization to any Green functor for G over R of the construction of the Hochschild cohomology ring HH∗(G,R) from the ordinary cohomology functor H∗(−, R). Another special case is the construction of the crossed Burnside ring of G from the ordinary Burnside functor. The general abstract setting is the following : let ...
متن کاملRational p-biset functors
In this paper, I give several characterizations of rational biset functors over p-groups, which are independent of the knowledge of genetic bases for p-groups. I also introduce a construction of new biset functors from known ones, which is similar to the Yoneda construction for representable functors, and to the Dress construction for Mackey functors, and I show that this construction preserves...
متن کامل20 06 q - DEFORMATION OF WITT - BURNSIDE RINGS
In this paper, we construct a q-deformation of the Witt-Burnside ring of a profinite group over a commutative ring, where q ranges over the ring of integers. When q = 1, this coincides with the Witt-Burnside ring introduced by A. Dress and C. Siebeneicher (Adv. Math. 70 (1988), 87-132). To achieve our goal we first show that there exists a q-deformation of the necklace ring of a profinite group...
متن کاملThe slice Burnside ring and the section Burnside ring of a finite group
This paper introduces two new Burnside rings for a finite group G, called the slice Burnside ring and the section Burnside ring. They are built as Grothendieck rings of the category of morphisms of G-sets, and of Galois morphisms of G-sets, respectively. The well known results on the usual Burnside ring, concerning ghost maps, primitive idempotents, and description of the prime spectrum, are ex...
