Effect of Model Structure on the Uncertainty of Results From Watershed Scale Water Quality Models

چکیده
Two lumped parameter watershed scale hydrology and water quality models (WATGIS and QUALGIS) which describe the nitrogen loadings at the’outlet of coastal plain watersheds were examined with respect to their accuracy and uncertainty of model results. Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) was applied to determine the impact of uncertainty in estimating field exports and decay coefficients on the uncertainty of the simulated nitrogen loads at the outlet of a 2950 ha coastal plain watershed in eastern North Carolina. Analysis showed that QUALGIS can better predict the outflows and nitrogen loads at the outlet of the watershed as compared to WATGIS. For both models, the uncertainty in quantifying the field exports has greater impact on the uncertainty of outlet loads than does the uncertainty associated with decay coefficient. The uncertainty of predicted outputs from both model are similar.

Uncertainty assessment in watershed-scale water quality modeling and management: 1. Framework and application of generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation (GLUE) approach
[1] Watershed-scale water quality models involve substantial uncertainty in model output because of sparse water quality observations and other sources of uncertainty. Assessing the uncertainty is very important for those who use the models to support management decision making. Systematic uncertainty analysis for these models has rarely been done and remains a major challenge. This study aimed...
متن کاملWater Quality Model Output Uncertainty as Affected by Spatial Resolution of Input Data
Resolution of the input GIS data used to parameterize distributed-parameter hydrologic/water quality models may affect uncertainty in model outputs and impact the subsequent application of model results in watershed management. In this study we evaluated the impact of varying spatial resolutions of DEM, land use, and soil data (30 x 30 m, 100 x 100 m, 150 x 150 m, 200 x 200 m, 300 x 300 m, 500 ...

One of the important elements in mechanized irrigation is to know the relation between suction force (matric force) and soil moisture, which is referred to as moisture curve. The shape and coefficients of this curve are influenced by the texture and structure of the soil and can change with soil structure modification. The most important goals of this study were to evaluate the effect of using...

Digital Elevation Model is one of the most important data for watershed modeling whit hydrological models that it has a significant impact on hydrological processes simulation. Several studies by the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) as useful Tool have indicated that the simulation results of this model is very sensitive to the quality of topographic data. Due to the important role of non-point source pollution in water resources management, in this study time series modeling was applied to forecast water quality parameters and L-THIA model (one type of non-point source pollution models) was applied to estimate water pollutants. The purpose of this study was to compare results of L-THIA model and ARIMA models in Namrood sub-basin located in ...
