Elevated parathyroid hormone-related peptide in a patient with an extragonadal germ-cell tumour and hypercalcemia.

چکیده
' 2004 Canadian Medical Association H has been described as a paraneoplastic syndrome associated with most malignant lesions but is very rarely reported in association with germ cell tumours. Paraneoplastic hypercalcemia is typically related to the production of parathyroid hormone–related peptide (PTHrP). I describe here what I believe to be the first case of germ cell tumour with hypercalcemia and confirmed PTHrP elevation.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Marjolin's Ulcer) Arising in a Sacral Decubitus Ulcer Resulting in Humoral Hypercalcemia of Malignancy
Long-standing burns, fissures, and ulcers that undergo malignant transformation into a variety of malignancies, including squamous cell carcinoma, is commonly referred to as a Marjolin's ulcer. It is well recognized that squamous cell carcinomas of the lung and esophagus can cause humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy secondary to paraneoplastic secretion of parathyroid hormone-related peptide. H...
متن کاملRare Case of a Patient Presenting with Parathyroid Hormone-Related Peptide Mediated Hypercalcemia and IgG Heavy Chain Disease: Case Report and Review of Literature
IgG Heavy Chain Disease (γHCD) is a rare plasma cell disorder. Hypercalcemia related to plasma cell dyscrasias is related to non-PTHrP related mechanisms. Here we describe the first case of a patient with γHCD and PTHrP related hypercalcemia. Methods: Patient case derived from chart review from 2011 to 2015. Literature review performed searching PubMed 1968-current. Results: The patient was dia...
متن کاملAn unusual case of malignancy-related hypercalcemia
OBJECTIVE To report the case of a 28-year-old woman who presented with hypercalcemia (total calcium =4.11 mmol/L), elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) 24.6 pmol/L, normal parathyroid hormone-related peptide 7.8 pg/mL, and a 63 mm × 57 mm, poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma (small-cell type) pancreatic mass with liver metastases. INVESTIGATIONS AND TREATMENT Hypercalcemia was acutel...
متن کاملHypercalcaemia and phaeochromocytoma.
A patient with a phaeochromocytoma associated with hypercalcemia is described. The hypercalcaemia was corrected by removal of the phaeochromocytoma. Parathyroid hormone-like peptide was isolated from the tumour suggesting that ectopic parathyroid hormone production from the phaeochromocytoma was the explanation of the hypercalcaemia.
متن کاملSubsternal oxyphil parathyroid adenoma producing PTHrP with hypercalcemia and normal PTH level
BACKGROUND Parathyroid adenoma is the most common cause of primary hyperparathyroidism. Preoperative serum calcium and intact-parathyroid hormone levels are the most useful diagnostic parameters that allow differentiating primary hyperparathyroidism from non-parathyroid-dependent hypercalcemia. Parathyroidectomy is the definitive treatment for primary hyperparathyroidism. Approximately 5% of pa...
