Calibration of the fundamental plane zero - point in the Leo - Igroup and an estimate
نویسندگان
چکیده
We derive new eeective radii and total magnitudes for 5 E and S0 galaxies in the Leo-I group from wide-eld CCD images. These are used in conjunction with recent literature velocity data to construct the fundamental plane (FP) of the Leo-I group. The rms scatter that we nd is only 6 % in distance. The zero point of this relation provides a calibration of the FP as a distance indicator and directly determines the angular diameter distance ratio between the Leo-I group and more distant clusters. In the language of Jerjen and Tammann (1993) we determine a cosmic velocity of the Leo-I group of 757 68 km s ?1 relative to the Coma cluster, or 796 57 km s ?1 relative to a frame of 9 clusters. Combining this velocity with the Cepheid distance to M96, a member of Leo-I, we nd the Hubble constant to be H 0 = 67 8 km s ?1 Mpc ?1 or H 0 = 70 7 km s ?1 Mpc ?1 for each case. The distance we obtain for the Coma cluster itself (108 12 Mpc) is in good agreement with a number of other recent estimates. 1 Based on observations made with INT operated on the island of La Palma by the Royal Greenwich Observatory in the Spanish Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos of the Instituto de Astrof sica de Canarias.

متن کاملCalibration of Fair Social Discount Rate in Utilizing Iran Oil Resources: An Islamic View Point
There is a long tradition in economics about the question of whether intergenerational discounting is fair or not. Ramsey (1928) was the first economist that criticized the discounting and mentioned that the just rate of discounting is zero. In this paper it was tried to calculate the just rate of discounting for Iran with respect to Islamic thoughts. According to Islam, intergenerational just...
متن کاملReal Time Calibration of Strap-down Three-Axis-Magnetometer for Attitude Estimation
Three-axis-magnetometers (TAMs) are widely utilized as a key component of attitude determination subsystems and as such are considered the corner stone of navigation for low Earth orbiting (LEO) space systems. Precise geomagnetic-based navigation demands accurate calibration of the magnetometers. In this regard, a complete online calibration process of TAM is developed in the current research t...

The fundamental solution of the system of differential equations in bio-thermoelasticity with dual phase lag (DPL) in case of steady oscillations in terms of elementary function is constructed and basic property is established. The tissue is considered as an isotropic medium and the propagation of plane harmonic waves is studied. The Christoffel equations are obtained and modified with the ther...
متن کاملPopulation II standard candle calibration of the Fundamental Plane of groups and clusters of galaxies and the Hubble Constant
Hubble’s constant (H0) is calculated using the Fundamental Plane (FP) relation between half-light radius, surface brightness, and velocity dispersion for groups and clusters of galaxies. The Tip of the Red Giant Branch (TRGB), a standard candle based on the constant luminosity of low-mass stars at helium core flash, is used to calibrate the cluster FP. TRGB stars yield the distances to the near...
