چکیده

Bending of worm-like polymers carries an energy penalty which results in the appearance of a persistence length lp such that the polymer is straight on length scales smaller than lp and bends only on length scales larger than this length. Intuitively, this leads us to expect that the most probable value of the local curvature of a worm-like polymer undergoing thermal fluctuations in a solvent, is zero. We use simple geometric arguments and Monte Carlo simulations to show that while this expectation is indeed true for polymers on surfaces (in two dimensions), in three dimensions the probability of observing zero curvature anywhere along the worm-like chain, vanishes.

Curvature-driven molecular demixing in the budding and breakup of mixed component Worm-like Micelles.

Amphiphilic block copolymers of suitable proportions can self-assemble into surprisingly long and stable worm-like micelles, but the intrinsic polydispersity of polymers as well as polymer blending efforts and the increasing use of degradable chains all raise basic questions of curvature-composition coupling and morphological stability of these high curvature assemblies. Molecular simulations h...

Distribution Design of Two Rival Decenteralized Supply Chains: a Two-person Nonzero Sum Game Theory Approach

We consider competition between two decentralized supply chains network under demand uncertainty. Each chain consists of one risk-averse manufacturer and a group of risk-averse retailers. These two chains present substitutable products to the geographical dispensed markets. The markets’ demands are contingent upon prices, service levels, and advertising efforts of two supply chains. We formulat...

An effective approach for damage identification in beam-like structures based on modal flexibility curvature and particle swarm optimization

In this paper, a computationally simple approach for damage localization and quantification in beam-like structures is proposed. This method is based on using modal flexibility curvature (MFC) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Analytical studies in the literature have shown that changes in the modal flexibility curvature can be considered as a sensitive and suitable criterion for...

Worm castings-based growing media with biochar and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi for producing organic tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in greenhouse.

Organic vegetable production has specific research and innovation requirements which are not shared by other parts of the food and farming sector. A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the interactive effects of few permitted organic inputs such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, biochar, and different ratios of peat:worm casting on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) growth, mycorrhizal dep...
