چکیده

Generating function equation has been derived for the probability distribution of the number of nodes with k ≥ 0 outgoing lines in randomly evolving special trees defined in an earlier paper arXiv:condmat/0205650. The stochastic properties of the end-nodes (k = 0) have been analyzed, and it was shown that the relative variance of the number of end-nodes vs. time has a maximum when the evolution is either subcritical or supercritical. On the contrary, the time dependence of the relative dispersion of the number of dead end-nodes shows a minimum at the beginning of the evolution independently of its type. For the sake of better understanding of the evolution dynamics the survival probability of random trees has been investigated, and asymptotic expressions have been derived for this probability in the cases of subcritical, critical and supercritical evolutions. In critical evolution it was shown that the probability to find the tree lifetime larger than x, is decreasing to zero as 1/x, if x → ∞. Approaching the critical state it has been found the fluctuations of the tree lifetime to become extremely large, and so near the critical state the average lifetime could be hardly used for the characterization of the process. Randomly evolving trees III

The properties of randomly evolving special trees having defined and analyzed already in two earlier papers (arXiv:cond-mat/0205650 and arXiv: cond-mat/0211092) have been investigated in the case when the continuous time parameter converges to infinity. Equations for generating functions of the number of nodes and end-nodes in a stationary (i.e. infinitely old) tree have been derived. In order ...

Phylogenetically patterned speciation rates and extinction risks change the loss of evolutionary history during extinctions.

If we are to plan conservation strategies that minimize the loss of evolutionary history through human-caused extinctions, we must understand how this loss is related to phylogenetic patterns in current extinction risks and past speciation rates. Nee & May (1997, Science 278, 692-694) showed that for a randomly evolving clade (i) a single round of random extinction removed relatively little evo...

Non-crossing trees revisited: cutting down and spanning subtrees

Here we consider two parameters for random non-crossing trees: i the number of random cuts to destroy a sizen non-crossing tree and ii the spanning subtree-size of p randomly chosen nodes in a size-n non-crossing tree. For both quantities, we are able to characterise for n ∞ the limiting distributions. Non-crossing trees are almost conditioned Galton-Watson trees, and it has been already shown,...

Random trees between two walls: Exact partition function

We derive the exact partition function for a discrete model of random trees embedded in a one-dimensional space. These trees have vertices labeled by integers representing their position in the target space, with the SOS constraint that adjacent vertices have labels differing by ±1. A non-trivial partition function is obtained whenever the target space is bounded by walls. We concentrate on the...

The left-right-imbalance of binary search trees

Abstract. We present a detailed study of left-right-imbalance measures for random binary search trees under the random permutation model, i.e., where binary search trees are generated by random permutations of {1, 2, . . . , n}. For random binary search trees of size n we study (i) the difference between the left and the right depth of a randomly chosen node, (ii) the difference between the lef...
