Strange Stars ’ - have they been discovered ?

چکیده
Recently there have been controversial claims about the nature of the isolated compact star RXJ1856.5−3754, with one group claiming it to be a strange star (Drake et al., 2002) while the other asserting it to be a normal neutron star (Walter & Lattimer, 2002). The controversy arises mainly due to the distance estimate, which in turn is used to resolve the measured angular diameter, and thus the radiation radius R∞. In this we discuss the theoretical constraints that appear from analysing the usual mass-radius relation alongwith the redshift factors arising from the strong gravity effects and possible lensing. Unless the distance estimate is confirmed independently, without any uncertainty, it is premature to come to any conclusion regarding the nature of this star. A note on solid pulsars
After a brief introduction to the necessary of quark stars in modelling pulsars, I present a qualitative analysis of the solidification of quark matter with low-temperature but high-density. The reason, that a solid neutron star could not be possible, is also given. Subject headings: pulsars: general — stars: neutron — elementary particles What’s the nature of pulsars? This question seems to ha...
متن کاملChromo-thermal Instabilities and Collapse of Strange Stars to Black Holes : Astrophysical Implications
We have studied the effects of temperature on the properties of strange stars. We find that the maximum mass of the strange star decreases with the increase of temperature, because at high temperatures the equations of state become softer. Moreover, if the temperature of a strange star increases keeping its baryon number fixed, its gravitational mass increases and radius decreases which leads t...
متن کاملQuark matter imprint on Gravitational Waves from oscillating stars
We discuss the possibility that the detection of gravitational waves emitted by compact stars may allow to constrain the MIT bag model of quark matter equation of state. Our results show that the combined knowledge of the frequency of the emitted gravitational wave and of the mass, or the radiation radius, of the source allows one to discriminate between strange stars and neutron stars and set ...

متن کاملAre Pulsars Bare Strange Stars?
It is believed that pulsars are neutron stars or strange stars with crusts. However we suggest here that pulsars may be bare strange stars (i.e., strange stars without crust). Due to rapid rotation and strong emission, young strange stars produced in supernova explosions should be bare when they act as radio pulsars. Because of strong magnetic field, two polar-crusts would shield the polar caps...
