Enumeration and Characterization of Arsenic-Tolerant Diazotrophic Bacteria in a Long-Term Heavy-Metal-Contaminated Soil
نویسندگان
چکیده
The abundance of arsenic-tolerant diazotrophic bacteria was compared in a long-term contaminated soil versus a non-contaminated one. In addition, the characterization of tolerant diazotrophic bacteria was carried out. Differences in the number of heterotrophic N2 fixers were found between soils. Contaminated soil showed a decrease in the microbial population size of about 80%, confirming the great sensitivity of this group of soil bacteria to metals. However, quantitative analysis of the response to increased doses of arsenic reveals that the proportion of the culturable diazotrophic community tolerant to arsenic was identical for both soils (contaminated and non-contaminated). Twentytwo arsenic-tolerant diazotrophic isolates were obtained and further characterized. 16S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis revealed that these bacterial isolates were distributed among four taxons (Actinobacteria, Firmicutes, γ-Proteobacteria, and β-Proteobacteria). Most genera recovered from the contaminated soil were also found in the uncontaminated soil.

Associative diazotrophic bacteria in grass roots and soils from heavy metal contaminated sites.
This work aimed to evaluate density of associative diazotrophic bacteria populations in soil and grass root samples from heavy metal contaminated sites, and to characterize isolates from these populations, both, phenotypically (Zinc, Cadmium and NaCl tolerance in vitro, and protein profiles) and genotypically (16S rDNA sequencing), as compared to type strains of known diazotrophic species. Dens...
متن کاملIsolation and molecular characterization of bacteria to heavy metals isolated from soil samples in Bokaro Coal Mines, India
In recent years, environmental pollution by coal mining is a long-established human activity affecting all levels of life with various environmental impacts by generating heavy metals. The presence of heavy metals even in trace amount is toxic and detrimental to all living organisms. The coal mine area in Bokaro is one of the “Toxic Hotspot” in India. Bacteria have evolved uptake and efflux mec...

متن کاملIdentification and characterization of a Pb, Cu and antibiotic resistant bacteria from soil of industrial wastewater ground
Industrial effluents consist many pollutant and heavy metals. Bacteria isolated from industrial west water ground may have potential to tolerate heavy metal. In this study we isolate a Citrobacter sp. which can resist heavy metal like Cu and Pb. Slurry from industrial west water ground was collected from 22.0663 N, 88.1041 E. The heavy metal content and other parameters of soil were estimated. ...
