چکیده

A general circuit model is derived for the electrical noise of electrode–electrolyte systems, with emphasis on its implications for electrochemical sensors. The noise power spectral densities associated with all noise sources introduced in the model are also analytically calculated. Current and voltage fluctuations in typical electrode–electrolyte systems are demonstrated to originate from either thermal equilibrium noise created by conductors, or nonequilibrium excess noise caused by charge transfer processes produced by electrochemical interactions. The power spectral density of the thermal equilibrium noise is predicted using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem of thermodynamics, while the excess noise is assessed in view of charge transfer kinetics, along with mass transfer processes in the electrode proximity. The presented noise model not only explains previously reported noise spectral densities such as thermal noise in sensing electrodes, shot noise in electrochemical batteries, and 1/f noise in corrosive interfaces, it also provides design-oriented insight into the fabrication of low-noise microand nanoelectrochemical sensors. © 2004 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1755429#

Vibrational spectroscopy at electrolyte/electrode interfaces with graphene gratings

Microscopic understanding of physical and electrochemical processes at electrolyte/electrode interfaces is critical for applications ranging from batteries, fuel cells to electrocatalysis. However, probing such buried interfacial processes is experimentally challenging. Infrared spectroscopy is sensitive to molecule vibrational signatures, yet to approach the interface three stringent requireme...

Electrochemical noise and impedance of Au electrode/electrolyte interfaces enabling extracellular detection of glioma cell populations

Microelectrode arrays (MEA) record extracellular local field potentials of cells adhered to the electrodes. A disadvantage is the limited signal-to-noise ratio. The state-of-the-art background noise level is about 10 μVpp. Furthermore, in MEAs low frequency events are filtered out. Here, we quantitatively analyze Au electrode/electrolyte interfaces with impedance spectroscopy and noise measurem...

Construction of S?-Selective Electrode and Thermodynamic Study of the Ternary Aqueous Mixed Electrolyte System (SrCl2, KG, H20) Using Potentiometric Method

In order to preparing strontium ion selective electrode 6-(4- nitropheny1)-2-pheny14, 4- dipropy1-3, 5-diaza-bicyclo [3, 1, 0] hex-2-ene (NPDBH) was used as an ionophore. This electrode responds to Sr (II)ion with a sensitivity of 28.2 ± 0.5 mV/decade over the range 1.0 x 10-6 to 1.0 Mat pH 3.0-10.0. Thelimit of detection was 2.4 x 10-7 M. The influences of membrane composition, the pH of the t...

Multi-electrode arrays technology for the non-invasive recording of neural signals: a review article

The recording of electrophysiological activities of brain neurons in the last half-century has been considered as one of the effective tools for the development of neuroscience. One of the techniques for recording the activity of nerve cells is the multi-electrode arrays (MEAs). Microelectrode arrays (MEAs) are usually employed to record electrical signals from electrogenic cells like neurons o...

First principles study on electrochemical and chemical stability of solid electrolyte–electrode interfaces in all-solid-state Li-ion batteries

All-solid-state Li-ion batteries based on ceramic solid electrolyte materials are a promising next-generation energy storage technology with high energy density and enhanced cycle life. The poor interfacial conductance is one of the key limitations in enabling all-solid-state Li-ion batteries. However, the origin of this poor conductance has not been understood, and there is limited knowledge a...
