چکیده

The thermodynamics of a charge-asymmetric lattice gas of positive ions carrying charge q and negative ions with charge 2zq is investigated using Debye–Hückel theory. Explicit analytic and numerical calculations, which take into account the formation of neutral and charged clusters and cluster solvation by the residual ions, are performed for z52, 3, and 4. As charge asymmetry increases, the predicted critical point shifts to lower temperatures and higher densities. This trend agrees well with the results from recent Monte Carlo simulations for continuum charge-asymmetric hard-sphere ionic fluids and with the corresponding predictions from continuum Debye–Hückel theory. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1558311#

Static versus dynamic fluctuations in the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model

The extended Hubbard Hamiltonian is a widely accepted model for uncovering the effects of strong correlations on the phase diagram of low-dimensional systems, and a variety of theoretical techniques have been applied to it. In this paper the world-line quantum Monte Carlo method is used to study spin, charge, and bond order correlations of the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model in the prese...

Field-theoretic Approach to Ionic Systems: Criticality and Tricriticality

A Landau-Ginzburg functional of two order parameters (charge-density φ and mass-density deviation η) is developed in order to yield a field theory relevant to ionic lattice gases as well as a family of off-lattice models of ionic fluids that go beyond the restricted primitive model (RPM). In a mean-field (MF) approximation an instability of a uniform phase with respect to charge fluctuations wi...

Gas-liquid critical parameters of asymmetric models of ionic fluids.

The effects of size and charge asymmetry on the gas-liquid critical parameters of a primitive model (PM) of ionic fluids are studied within the framework of the statistical field theory based on the collective variables method. Recently, this approach has enabled us to obtain the correct trends of the both critical parameters of the equisize charge-asymmetric PM without assuming ionic associati...

Simulations of phase transitions in ionic systems

A review of recent simulation work in the area of phase transitions in ionic systems is presented. The vapor-liquid transition for the restricted primitive model has been studied extensively in the past decade. The critical temperature is now known to excellent accuracy and the critical density to moderate accuracy. There is also strong simulation-based evidence that the model is in the Ising u...

Phase diagram of diblock polyampholyte solutions

We discuss in this paper the phase diagram of a diblock polyampholyte solution in the limit of high ionic strength as a function of concentration and charge asymmetry. This system is shown to be very similar to solutions of so-called charged-neutral diblock copolymers: at zero charge asymmetry the solution phase separates into a polyelectrolyte complex and almost pure solvent. Above a charge as...
