Exploring polyethylene glycol/cyclodextrin hydrogels with spin probes and EPR spectroscopy.

چکیده
Formation of organogels from covalently linked polyethylene glycols and cyclodextrins and their encapsulation/release properties were monitored with EPR spectroscopy using spin labels and spin probes; changes in molecular tumbling rates provided information on spin probe/label location inside the gel network, and molecular properties of the gel.

Properties of polyethylene glycol/cyclodextrin hydrogels revealed by spin probes and spin labelling methods.
The properties of a gel consisting of a covalent network formed by the reaction of isocyanate end-capped polyethylene glycol (PEG) with β-cyclodextrin, were investigated by EPR spectroscopy. Spin-labelled cyclodextrin was incorporated into the cross-link points of the gel and at the chain ends. The dynamics of the gel fibres as reported by the spin label, was found to be sensitive to the H-bond...
متن کاملThixotropic Supramolecular Pectin-Poly(Ethylene Glycol) Methacrylate (PEGMA) Hydrogels
Pectin is an anionic, water-soluble polymer predominantly consisting of covalently 1,4-linked α-D-galacturonic acid units. This naturally occurring, renewable and biodegradable polymer is underutilized in polymer science due to its insolubility in organic solvents, which renders conventional polymerization methods impractical. To circumvent this problem, cerium-initiated radical polymerization ...
متن کاملSupramolecular hydrogels formed by pyrene-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) star polymers through inclusion complexation of pyrene dimers with γ-cyclodextrin.
Novel supramolecular hydrogels were formed between pyrene-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) star polymers and γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD), through the inclusion complexation of dimers of the pyrene terminals with γ-CD, where γ-CD was directly used as a supramolecular cross-linking reagent without any modification.
متن کاملExtremely stretchable thermosensitive hydrogels by introducing slide-ring polyrotaxane cross-linkers and ionic groups into the polymer network
Stimuli-sensitive hydrogels changing their volumes and shapes in response to various stimulations have potential applications in multiple fields. However, these hydrogels have not yet been commercialized due to some problems that need to be overcome. One of the most significant problems is that conventional stimuli-sensitive hydrogels are usually brittle. Here we prepare extremely stretchable t...
متن کاملDemystifying EPR: A Rookie Guide to the Application of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy on Biomolecules
Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, also known as Electron Spin Resonance(ESR) especially among physicists, is a strong and versatile spectroscopic method forinvestigation of paramagnetic systems, i.e. systems like free radicals and most transition metalions, which have unpaired electrons. The sensitivity and selectivity of EPR are notable andintriguing as compared to other spec...
