چکیده

There have been a number of publications in recent years on generalising the AGM paradigm to the Horn fragment of propositional logic. Most of them focused on adapting AGM contraction and revision to the Horn setting. It remains an open question whether the adapted Horn contraction and Horn revision are interdefinable as in the AGM case through the Levi and Harper identities. In this paper, we give a positive answer by providing methods for generating contraction and revision from their dual operations. Noticeably, we cannot apply the Levi and Harper identities directly in such methods as the Horn fragment does not fully support negation. To overcome this difficulty, a Horn approximation technique called Horn strengthening is used. We show that Horn contraction generated from Horn revision is always plausible whereas Horn revision generated from Horn contraction is, in general, implausible and, to regain plausibility, the generating contraction has to be properly

Definability of Horn Revision from Horn Contraction

In the AGM framework [Alchourrón and Makinson, 1985], a revision function can be defined directly through constructions like systems of spheres, epistemic entrenchment, etc., or indirectly through a contraction operation via the Levi identity. A recent trend is to construct AGM style contraction and revision functions that operate under Horn logic. A direct construction of Horn revision is give...

Model Based Horn Contraction

Following the recent trend of adapting the AGM (Alchourrón and Makinson 1985) framework to propositional Horn logic, Delgrande and Peppas (Delgrande and Peppas 2011) give a model theoretic account for revision in the Horn logic setting. The current paper complements their work by studying the model theoretic approach for contraction. A model based Horn contraction is constructed and shown to gi...

Entrenchment-Based Horn Contraction

The AGM framework is the benchmark approach in belief change. Since the framework assumes an underlying logic containing classical Propositional Logic, it can not be applied to systems with a logic weaker than Propositional Logic. To remedy this limitation, several researchers have studied AGM-style contraction and revision under the Horn fragment of Propositional Logic (i.e., Horn logic). In t...

Transitively Relational Partial Meet Horn Contraction

Following the recent trend of studying the theory of belief revision under the Horn fragment of propositional logic this paper develops a fully characterised Horn contraction which is analogous to the traditional transitively relational partial meet contraction [Alchourrón et al., 1985]. This Horn contraction extends the partial meet Horn contraction studied in [Delgrande and Wassermann, 2010] ...

Horn Complements: Towards Horn-to-Horn Belief Revision

Horn-to-Horn belief revision asks for the revision of a Horn knowledge base such that the revised knowledge base is also Horn. Horn knowledge bases are important whenever one is concerned with efficiency—of computing inferences, of knowledge acquisition, etc. Horn-to-Horn belief revision could be of interest, in particular, as a component of any efficient system requiring large commonsense know...
