چکیده

We investigate the differential effects of the quality and quantity of maternal time on children’s cognitive and socio-emotional development. We measure the quantity of time as the total amount of maternal time devoted to childcare and quality as the fraction of this time devoted to purposeful teaching-learning routines. We address the potential endogeneity issues by using an instrumental variable approach. The quality of maternal time has a positive effect on both cognitive and socio-emotional development. The quantity of maternal time also has a positive effect on cognitive scores but it appears to have a detrimental effect on socio-emotional development.
