Adsorption of halothane vapour in glass syringes.

چکیده
THE ~-'v~OST COM~ON too1 in medical research is the glass syringe. It is often employed for the sampling of various gases, vapours, and their mixtures, During our experiments regarding reproducibility of anaesthetic vapour-gas mixtures, we found that the results depended considerably upon the time the mixture remained in the syringe before analysis. After considering and eliminating other possible causes, it seemed the adsorption on the ground glass wall was responsible. The adsorption in the syringe occurred when it contained an anaesthetic vapour, not pure air or other gases, For our study we used halothane vapour-air mixtures.

Atropine and ephedrine adsorption
The purpose of this study was to compare daily changes in the concentration of atropine or ephedrine sulfate solutions that had been stored up to 4 days in plastic or glass syringes. Sets of three plastic and one glass syringe were used for each drug; the glass syringes acted as controls. Each set of syringes was labeled as day 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4. Syringes with medication were laid horizontally, ...

Atmospheric halothane was sampled from three selected operating theatres and anaesthetic rooms during the middle of operating sessions. Two of the operating theatres studied were ventilated with total air exchange once every six minutes; the third operating theatre had no ventilation. End-tidal samples were obtained from anaesthetists. Halothane vapour concentrations were analysed by gas-liquid...
متن کاملAdsorption of (99m)Tc-radiopharmaceuticals onto injection vials and syringes.
UNLABELLED Many groups have reported the adsorption or retention of (99m)Tc-radiopharmaceuticals on injection vials and disposable plastic syringes. Such an enormously high loss of radioactivity would result in poor images, radiation exposure, waste, and economic burdens. We therefore decided to investigate the extent of adsorption or retention of several (99m)Tc-radiopharmaceuticals on injecti...
متن کاملAdsorption of some technetium-99m radiopharmaceuticals onto disposable plastic syringes.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to determine the adsorption behavior of some widely used, commercially available 99mTc radiopharmaceuticals onto different types of plastic syringes. METHODS Kits were reconstituted with 99mTc-pertechnetate diluted with 0.9% saline to produce maximum radioactive concentrations, as stated by the manufacturers. Aliquots of the solutions were transferred t...
متن کاملLoss of resistance technique for locating the epidural space: evaluation of glass and plastic syringes.
Location of the epidural space in epidural anaesthesia usually involves the measurement of loss of resistance using glass or plastic syringes. In the present study two varieties of glass syringe and one plastic type were evaluated to determine the resistive forces associated with plunger movement. The mean static (fs) and dynamic (fd) forces for polished glass syringes having a ground plunger o...
