چکیده

The well-posedness of a Riemann problem at a junction in a pipeline network is discussed. In addition computational results on the dynamics of the flow of a multi-component gas at such network junctions are presented. The work presented here is a generalisation of [M. K. Banda, M. Herty, and J. M. T. Ngnotchouye, Towards a mathematical analysis of multiphase drift-flux model in networks, SIAM J. Sci. Comput., 31(6): 4633 – 4653, 2010] to models in which the equation of state has different compressibility factors or sonic speeds. KeywordsDrift-flux, multi-component, compressible flow, Riemann Problem, flow networks, coupling conditions, compressibility factor.

On linearized coupling conditions for a class of isentropic multiphase drift-flux models at pipe-to-pipe intersections

In this paper a general drift-flux model describing a subsonic and isentropic multi-phase fluid in connected pipes is considered. Each phase is assumed to be isentropic with its own sonic speed. The components are gamma-law gases with γ > 1. For such the computational challenge at a junction is the computation of rarefaction waves which do not have a readily available analytical form. Firstly, ...

Climate drift in an ocean model coupled to a simple, perfectly matched atmosphere

A very simple, diffusive energy balance atmosphere is coupled to the GFDL ocean circulation model. This provides a useful tool for analyzing climate drift in the ocean model after coupling, and may be used to assess various schemes for minimizing such drift. In the experiment reported here, the atmosphere is constructed in such a way that it provides the ocean model at the moment of coupling wi...

Effects of Ground Motion Directionality on the Seismic Behavior of Mid-rise Concrete Buildings with Considering Unequal Live-Load Distribution in Height

The incident angle of ground motion is one of the sources of uncertainty in the seismic response of buildings. Moreover, understanding the structural response to the impose ground motion may cause significant changes in the maximum response of buildings. In order to investigate the effect of the spatial distribution of orthogonal components of earthquake strong motion on the structural response...

Global Solutions of a Viscous Gas-Liquid Model with Unequal Fluid Velocities in a Closed Conduit

We consider a compressible gas-liquid drift-flux model with a general slip law commonly used to describe realistic two-phase flow scenarios. The slip law will introduce a difference in the magnitude of the two fluid velocities, and they possibly also have different sign. This allows the model to describe the effect of buoyant forces, for example in a vertical conduit, where heavy liquid will mo...

Trans-sonic cusped shaped, periodic waves and solitary waves of the electrostatic ion-cyclotron type

By adopting an essentially fluid dynamic viewpoint we derive the wave structure equation for stationary, fully nonlinear, electrostatic, ion-cyclotron waves. The existence of two fundamental constants of the motion, namely, conservation of momentum flux parallel to the ambient magnetic field, and energy flux parallel to the direction of wave propagation, enables the wave structure equation to b...
