ion, ontology and task-guidance for visual perception in robots Matthias J. Schlemmer and Markus Vincze Vienna University of Technology, Automation and Control Institute 1040, Vienna, Gusshausstrasse 27-29/E376, Austria [email protected] Abstract. In this paper we summarise theoretical work on visual perception for cognitive robotics. We study the use of logic-based ontologies for situated perception, motivated by cognitive science and philosophy. General considerations on scope and aims of “cognitive vision” is given where a functional position is taken. The use of symbol-based reasoning following this approach and the central importance of the mapping from low-level sensor data to higher-level symbols is outlined. Special focus is given w.r.t. the localisation of different mechanisms (subsymbolic, symbolic) during perception and cognition and cognitive functions that seem important are named. A preliminary implementation approach for mapping simple Gestalts to object concepts and a general discussion on the use of logic for perception conclude the paper. Interactive Refinement of Control Policies for Autonomous Robots

The automation of various aspects of life through robotics is a promising and useful mechanism to the general enduser. Robots are required to accept human guidance, and in its absence, have to operate autonomously while ensuring safety and optimality. This paper presents an approach to variable autonomy that extends reinforcement learning with the capability of integrating user guidance at vary...

Task-space Control of Electrically Driven Robots

Actuators of robot operate in the joint-space while the end-effect or of robot is controlled in the task-space. Therefore, designing a control system for a robotic system in the task-space requires the jacobian matrix information for transforming joint-space to task-space, which suffers from uncertainties. This paper deals with the robust task-space control of electrically driven robot manipula...

Robust Control of Electrically Driven Robots in the Task Space

In this paper, a task-space controller for electrically driven robot manipulators is developed using a robust control algorithm. The controller is designed using voltage control strategy. Based on the nominal model of the robotic arm, the desired signals for motor currents are calculated and then the voltage control law is proposed based on the current errors and motor nominal electrical model....

Adaptive Visual Guidance of Mobile Robots based on Takagi- Sugeno Model

In industrial applications arises the need for a high level cognition system to guide mobile robots robustly. This article addresses an integrated solution to achieve this task. The proposed system exhibits robust tracking of a visual guide and provides an adaptive interaction, which maintains the stability of the overall system against fluctuations of internal or external system parameters. Mo...
