Musical Navigatrics: New Musical Interactions with Passive Magnetic Tags
نویسندگان
چکیده
Passive RF Tagging can provide an attractive medium for development of free-gesture musical interfaces. This was initially explored in our Musical Trinkets installation, which used magnetically-coupled resonant LC circuits to identify and track the position of multiple objects in real-time. Manipulation of these objects in free space over a read coil triggered simple musical interactions. Musical Navigatrics builds upon this success with new more sensitive and stable sensing, multidimensional response, and vastly more intricate musical mappings that enable full musical exploration of free space through the dynamic use and control of arpeggiatiation and effects. The addition of basic sequencing abilities also allows for the building of complex, layered musical interactions in a uniquely easy and intuitive manner.

Development of An Improved Swept RF Tagging System and its Musical Applications
Building on the previous work and an earlier design by Dr. Joe Paradiso and Kai-Yuh Hsiao, an improved swept frequency tag reader has been developed and built. The tag reader uses an AC magnetic field to detect the presence and coupling strength of magnetically-coupled resonators, in this case, passive resonant LC circuits and magnetostrictors. The previously designed swept RF tag reader is cap...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Tagging for Electronic Music Interfaces
This paper describes the development of a musical interface based on electromagnetic tagging technology, where an ensemble of passively tagged objects is identified and tracked in real time when placed in the vicinity of a reader. As the system is able to identify and update the state of many (30 or more) tags simultaneously, they can be used together in any combination – e.g., several can sit ...
متن کاملTangible Music Interfaces using Passive Magnetic Tags
The technologies behind passive resonant magneticallycoupled tags are introduced and their application as a musical controller is illustrated for solo or group performances, interactive installations, and music toys.
متن کاملRelationship between Intelligence Quotient and Musical Ability in Children with Cochlear Implantation
Introduction: Children with cochlear implants (CIs) may experience few opportunities for positive musical experiences, and musical perception is therefore often not sufficiently developed. This paper investigates and discusses the relationship between intelligence quotient (IQ) and musical ability in children with CIs compared with children with normal hearing. ...
متن کاملClassification of Iranian traditional musical modes (DASTGÄH) with artificial neural network
The concept of Iranian traditional musical modes, namely DASTGÄH, is the basis for the traditional music system. The concept introduces seven DASTGÄHs. It is not an easy process to distinguish these modes and such practice is commonly performed by an experienced person in this field. Apparently, applying artificial intelligence to do such classification requires a combination of the basic infor...
