Tracking the language pathways in edema patients: Preliminary results
نویسندگان
چکیده
The tractability and integrity of fiber tracts within an edema, and the functional roles of long-range fiber tracts during language processing are discussed controversially. We studied the dorsal and ventral language fiber tracts of patients initially presenting with a peritumoral edema in both their pre-and postoperative states. Here, we report preliminary results of three patients. Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-based fiber tracking was performed. We were successful in locating the tracts in the presence of edema by lowering the fractional anisotropy (FA) threshold for streamline tractography. Moreover, the affected tracts demonstrated recovery after edema treatment and neurosurgery, both in terms of tractability and cognitive function.

Hand gesture recognition is very important to communicate in sign language. In this paper, an effective object tracking and hand gesture recognition method is proposed. This method is combination of two well-known approaches, the mean shift and the motion detection algorithm. The mean shift algorithm can track objects based on the color, then when hand passes the face occlusion happens. Several...
متن کاملEvaluation of Diffusion-Tensor Imaging-Based Global Search and Tractography for Tumor Surgery Close to the Language System
Pre-operative planning and intra-operative guidance in neurosurgery require detailed information about the location of functional areas and their anatomo-functional connectivity. In particular, regarding the language system, post-operative deficits such as aphasia can be avoided. By combining functional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion tensor imaging, the connectivity between functional...

متن کاملIntraoperative visualization of fiber tracking based reconstruction of language pathways in glioma surgery.
BACKGROUND For neuroepithelial tumors, the surgical goal is maximum resection with preservation of neurological function. This is contributed to by intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) combined with multimodal navigation. OBJECTIVE We evaluated the contribution of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-based fiber tracking of language pathways with 2 different algorithms (tensor deflectio...
