چکیده
T h e method of CERMAK and HERMAN has been appl ied to mass spectrometr ic studies of symmetrical electron and proton transfer processes. The characteristics of the ion source used have been investigated both experimental ly and theoretical ly. A new type of ionization ef f ic iency curve is obtained if the current of a secondary ion is plotted as a funct ion of the voltage between ionization chamber and electron trap at constant l ow voltage between the filament and the chamber. Essentially comple te discrimination of pr imary ions has been achieved. Electron transfer o c curs with rather low cross section in methane but increases with molecular size and with increasing unsaturation. Large cross sections were observed in sulfur and iodine containing compounds . Doub le charge transfer reactions such as

متن کاملSO2-* electron transfer ion/ion reactions with disulfide linked polypeptide ions.
Multiply-charged peptide cations comprised of two polypeptide chains (designated A and B) bound via a disulfide linkage have been reacted with SO2-* in an electrodynamic ion trap mass spectrometer. These reactions proceed through both proton transfer (without dissociation) and electron transfer (with and without dissociation). Electron transfer reactions are shown to give rise to cleavage along...
متن کاملMass spectrometric monitoring of interfacial photoelectron transfer and imaging of active crystalline facets of semiconductors
Monitoring of interfacial electron transfer (ET) in situ is important to understand the ET mechanism and designing efficient photocatalysts. We describe herein a mass spectrometric approach to investigate the ultrafast transfer of photoelectrons that are generated by ultraviolet irradiation on surfaces of semiconductor nanoparticles or crystalline facets. The mass spectrometric approach can not...
متن کاملRecent developments in the ion/ion chemistry of high-mass multiply charged ions.
The ability to form multiply charged high-mass ions in the gas-phase, most notably via electrospray ionization (ESI), has allowed the study of many different combinations of positively and negatively charged ions. The charged products are directly amenable to study with mass spectrometry. Ion/ion reactions have proved to be "universal" in the sense that the high exothermicities and large rate c...
متن کاملIon/ion chemistry of high-mass multiply charged ions.
Electrospray ionization has enabled the establishment of a new area of ion chemistry research based on the study of the reactions of high-mass multiply charged ions with ions of opposite polarity. The multiple-charging phenomenon associated with electrospray makes possible the generation of multiply charged reactant ions that yield charged products as a result of partial neutralization due to i...
