Transferable class C -lactamases in Escherichia coli strains isolated in Greek hospitals and characterization of two enzyme variants (LAT-3 and LAT-4) closely related to Citrobacter freundii AmpC -lactamase
Escherichia coli is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections. The most frequent mechanism of resistance to penicillins is the production of the common plasmidmediated TEM-1 -lactamase. Extended-spectrum lactamases of the TEM and SHV families, conferring resistance to newer -lactams such as oxyimino-cephalosporins, have also spread among E. coli clinical isolates. These enzymes are una...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of a Hospital-Associated Clone of Klebsiella pneumoniae ST340/CC258 Coproducing RmtG and KPC-2 Isolated from a Pediatric Patient
We report here the draft genome sequence of a Klebsiella pneumoniae strain 1194/11, belonging to the hospital-associated sequence type 340 (ST340; clonal complex CC258), isolated from a catheter tip culture from a pediatric patient. The multidrug-resistant strain coproduced the 16S rRNA methyltransferase rRNA RmtG and β-lactamases KPC-2 and CTX-M-15.
متن کاملTransfer of CMY-2 Cephalosporinase from Escherichia coli to Virulent Klebsiella pneumoniae Causing a Recurrent Liver Abscess.
A CMY-2-producing capsular type K2 Klebsiella pneumoniae strain (TVGHKP93) with multidrug resistance was isolated from a recurrent liver abscess in a patient who also carried a CMY-2-producing Escherichia coli strain (TVGHEC01) in the stool. TVGHKP93 retained its high virulence compared with that of the isogenic strain (TVGHKP60) with wild-type resistance from the first liver abscess. Our conju...
متن کاملCharacterization of a novel plasmid-mediated cephalosporinase (CMY-9) and its genetic environment in an Escherichia coli clinical isolate.
An Escherichia coli strain, HKYM68, which showed resistance to broad-spectrum cephalosporins was isolated from a sputum specimen in Japan. The high-level resistance of the strain to ceftazidime, cefpirome, and moxalactam was carried by a self-transferable plasmid. The beta-lactamase gene responsible for the resistance was cloned and sequenced. The deduced amino acid sequence of this gene produc...
متن کاملOccurence of ArmA and RmtB Aminoglycoside Resistance 16S rRNA Methylases in Extended-Spectrum β-Lactamases Producing Escherichia coli in Algerian Hospitals
The aim of this study, was to characterize the extended-spectrum-β-lactamases (ESBLs) producing clinical strains of Escherichia coli isolated between January 2009 and June 2012 from Algerian hospitals and to determine the prevalence of 16S rRNA methylase among them. Sixty-seven ESBL-producers were detected among the 239 isolates included: 52 CTX-M-15-producers, 5 CTX-M-3-producers, 5 CTX-M-1-pr...
