Why did I Prefer to Vote for my Political Party ?
نویسنده
چکیده
The case study revolves around discussions by a group of students of a popular university in a cafeteria. State elections in Uttar Pradesh had just finished and students were wondering as to how the election results were against their pre-conceived notions. They were discussing about the reasons as to why they voted for their preferred political party as first-time voters. Overall, this case study purports to assess the impact of political parties‟ branding on voters‟ decision-making. The case study seeks to raise three concerns: how does political parties‟ branding influence voters‟ decision-making? what are the key factors which influence a voter in decision-making process?, and why is psychology so different in a multi-party system in developing economies‟ contexts? A consumer-oriented approach is developed for assessing the impact of political parties‟ branding on voters‟ decisionmaking. It is concluded that voters‟ decision-making is influenced by the political parties‟ branding initiatives.

Strategic voting in large elections under proportional representation : Why vote for center parties ? ∗
Most of the countries in the democratic world use proportional representation to allocate seats in parliaments. There are typically more than two serious parties in those countries. Consequently, the two-party competition models do not help us much to understand the political economy of those countries. When there are more than two parties, it is no longer rational for voters to vote for the pa...

One of the important issues in which women played a key role in party ...
متن کاملWhere have all the parties gone? Fraenkel and Grofman on the alternative vote – yet again
The alternative vote (AV) is a preferential electoral system that tends to reward political moderation and compromise. Fraenkel and Grofman (2004, 2006a, 2006b) have repeatedly attempted to show that AV is not conducive to interethnic moderation in severely divided societies. In this response to their latest attempt, I point out that neither political party coordination of the vote nor strategi...
متن کاملMultiparty electoral competition in the Netherlands and Germany: A model based on multinomial probit
A typical assumption of electoral models of party competition is that parties adopt policy positions so as to maximize expected vote share. Here we use Euro-barometer survey data and European elite-study data from 1979 for the Netherlands and Germany to construct a stochastic model of voter response, based on multinomial probit estimation. For each of these countries, we estimate a pure spatial...

This paper explains why, despite a marked increase in available political information on cable television and the Internet, citizens’ levels of political knowledge have, at best, remained stagnant (Delli Carpini & Keeter, 1996). Since the availability of entertainment content has increased too, the effect of new media on knowledge and vote likelihood should be determined by people’s relative pr...
