Lost protection and wages: Some time series evidence for the US
نویسندگان
چکیده
This short note examines some time series evidence relating prices of exports and imports to the aggregate US wage over 34 years of falling tariffs starting in the mid 1960s. The cointegrated unit root series lead to error correction and vector autoregression models. The lost protection and changing traded prices lowered the US wage very slightly, by less than 1%. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved. JEL classification: F10; F11; F16

International Capital Movements and Relative Wages: Evidence from U.S. Manufacturing Industries
In this paper, we use a multi-sector specific factors model with international capital mobility to examine the effects of globalization on the skill premium in U.S. manufacturing industries. This model allows us to identify two channels through which globalization affects relative wages: effects of international capital flows transmitted through changes in interest rates, and effects of international...
متن کاملRisk prediction based on a time series case study: Tazareh coal mine
In this work, the time series modeling was used to predict the Tazareh coal mine risks. For this purpose, initially, a monthly analysis of the risk constituents including frequency index and incidence severity index was performed. Next, a monthly time series diagram related to each one of these indices was for a nine year period of time from 2005 to 2013. After extrusion of the trend, seasonali...
متن کاملGlobalization and relative wages : Some theory and evidence by
In this paper, we first present a simple theoretical model of globalization between similar countries to motivate the empirical work that follows. Specifically, we examine the linkages between trade volumes and relative wages in a specialization model along the lines of Ethier (1982). The core of the empirical analysis involves bivariate time-series analysis. There we find some evidence of a re...
متن کاملImmigrant-native wage gaps in time series: Complementarities or composition effects?
This study investigates the role of immigrant composition in creating the observed negative correlation between immigrant supply and immigrant wages in US time series, which has recently been interpreted as evidence of immigrant-native complementarities in production. The main finding is that compositional effects fully explain this empirical pattern. Newlyarrived immigrants, notably Latin Amer...
متن کاملA Cross-national Analysis of Minimum Wage Effects
We estimate the employment effects of changes in national minimum wages using a pooled crosssection time-series data set comprising 17 OECD countries for the period 1975-2000, focusing on the impact of cross-country differences in minimum wage systems and in other labor market institutions and policies that may either offset or amplify the effects of minimum wages. The average minimum wage effe...
