High-order non-reflecting boundary conditions for dispersive waves in polar coordinates using spectral elements

چکیده
High-order non-reflecting boundary conditions are introduced to create a finite computational space and for the solution of dispersive waves using a spectral element formulation with high-order time integration. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the synergy of using high-order spatial, time, and boundary discretization. We show that by balancing all numerical errors involved, high-order accuracy can be achieved for unbounded domain problems in polar coordinate systems. Published by Elsevier Inc.

High-order non-reflecting boundary conditions for dispersive waves
Problems of linear time-dependent dispersive waves in an unbounded domain are considered. The infinite domain is truncated via an artificial boundary B, and a high-order non-reflecting boundary condition (NRBC) is imposed on B. Then the problem is solved by a finite difference (FD) scheme in the finite domain bounded by B. The sequence of NRBCs proposed by Higdon is used. However, in contrast t...
متن کاملHigh-order non-reflecting boundary scheme for time-dependent waves
A new non-reflecting boundary scheme is proposed for time-dependent wave problems in unbounded domains. The linear time-dependent wave equation, with or without a dispersive term, is considered in a semi-infinite wave guide. The infinite domain is truncated via an artificial boundary B, and a high-order non-reflecting boundary condition (NRBC) is imposed onB. Then the problem is solved numerica...
متن کاملPadded continued fraction absorbing boundary conditions for dispersive waves
Continued fraction absorbing boundary conditions (CFABCs) are new arbitrarily high-order local absorbing boundary conditions that are highly effective in simulating wave propagation in unbounded domains. The current versions of CFABCs are developed for the non-dispersive acoustic wave equation with convex polygonal computational domains. In this paper, the CFABCs are modified through augmentati...
متن کاملChapter 5 Parabolic modelling of water waves
The propagation of linear water waves over a three-dimensional ocean is modelled using the mildslope equation. Various parabolic wave models are described that approximate the governing elliptic partial differential equation, and so are very convenient for computing wave propagation over large distances. Several aspects are discussed: computation of the reflected wavefield, the construction of ...
متن کاملElzaki transform method for finding solutions to two-dimensional elasticity problems in polar coordinates formulated using Airy stress functions
In this paper, the Elzaki transform method is used for solving two-dimensional (2D) elasticity problems in plane polar coordinates. Airy stress function was used to express the stress compatibility equation as a biharmonic equation. Elzaki transform was applied with respect to the radial coordinate to a modified form of the stress compatibility equation, and the biharmonic equation simplified t...
