چکیده

For solving partial differential algebraic equations (PDAEs), the space–time conservation element/solution element (CE/SE) method is addressed in this study. The method of lines (MOL) using an implicit time integrator is compared with the CE/SE method in terms of computational efficiency, solution accuracy and stability. The space–time CE/SE method is successfully implemented to solve PDAE systems through combining an iteration procedure for nonlinear algebraic equations. For illustration, chromatographic adsorption problems including convection, diffusion and reaction terms with a linear or nonlinear adsorption isotherm are solved by the two methods. The CE/SE method enforces both local and global flux conservation in space and time, and uses a simple stencil structure (two points at the previous time level and one point at the present time level). Thus, accurate and computationally-efficient numerical solutions are obtained. Stable solutions are guaranteed if the Courant–Friedrichs–Lewy (CFL) condition is satisfied. Solutions to two case studies demonstrate that the CE/SE numerical solutions are comparative in accuracy to those obtained from a MOL discretized by the 5th-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) upwinding scheme with a significantly shorter calculation time. © 2003 Elsevier Ltd. Combination of an adaptive multilevel SQP method and a space-time adaptive PDAE solver for optimal control problems

We present an adaptive multilevel generalized SQP method to solve PDAE-constrained optimization problems. It explicitly allows the use of independent integration schemes such that all involved systems can be solved highly efficient and as accurate as desired. We will couple the optimization with the state-of-the-art PDAE solver KARDOS and apply the new tool to a radiative heat transfer problem ...

Freezing Solutions of Equivariant Evolution Equations

In this paper we develop numerical methods for integrating general evolution equations ut = F (u), u(0) = u0, where F is defined on a dense subspace of some Banach space (generally infinite dimensional) and is equivariant with respect to the action of a finite dimensional (not necessarily compact) Lie group. Such equations typically arise from autonomous PDE’s on unbounded domains that are inva...

Optimal Control for Linear Partial Differential Algebraic Equations Using Simulink

In this paper, optimal control for linear partial differential algebraic equations (PDAE) with quadratic performance is obtained using Simulink. By using the method of lines, the PDAE is transformed into a differential algebraic equations (DAE). Hence, the optimal control of PDAE can be found out by finding the optimal control of the corresponding DAE. The goal is to provide optimal control wit...

We present a model hierarchy multilevel optimisation approach to solve an optimal boundary control problem in glass manufacturing. The process is modelled by radiative heat transfer and formulated as an optimal control problem restricted by partial differential algebraic equations (PDAE) and additional control constraints. We consider a sequence of model approximations given by space-time depen...

Maximum-principle-satisfying space-time conservation element and solution element scheme applied to compressible multifluids

A maximum-principle-satisfying space-time conservation element and solution element (CE/SE) scheme is constructed to solve a reduced five-equation model coupled with the stiffened equation of state for compressible multifluids. We first derive a sufficient condition for CE/SE schemes to satisfy maximum-principle when solving a general conservation law. And then we introduce a slope limiter to e...
