Construction of Boundary Layer Elements for Singularly Perturbed Convection-diffusion Equations and L- Stability Analysis

چکیده
It has been demonstrated that the ordinary boundary layer elements play an essential role in the finite element approximations for singularly perturbed problems producing ordinary boundary layers. Here we revise the element so that it has a small compact support and hence the resulting linear system becomes sparse, more precisely, block tridiagonal. We prove the validity of the revised element for some singularly perturbed convection-diffusion equations via numerical simulations and via the H1approximation error analysis. Furthermore due to the compact structure of the boundary layer we are able to prove the L2stability analysis of the scheme and derive the L2error approximations.

Numerical method for singularly perturbed fourth order ordinary differential equations of convection-diffusion type
In this paper, we have proposed a numerical method for singularly perturbed fourth order ordinary differential equations of convection-diffusion type. The numerical method combines boundary value technique, asymptotic expansion approximation, shooting method and finite difference method. In order to get a numerical solution for the derivative of the solution, the given interval is divided in...
متن کاملA hybrid method for singularly perturbed delay boundary value problems exhibiting a right boundary layer
The aim of this paper is to present a numerical method for singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problems with a delay. The method is a combination of the asymptotic expansion technique and the reproducing kernel method (RKM). First an asymptotic expansion for the solution of the given singularly perturbed delayed boundary value problem is constructed. Then the reduced regular delayed diffe...
متن کاملA method based on the meshless approach for singularly perturbed differential-difference equations with Boundary layers
In this paper, an effective procedure based on coordinate stretching and radial basis functions (RBFs) collocation method is applied to solve singularly perturbed differential-difference equations with layer behavior. It is well known that if the boundary layer is very small, for good resolution of the numerical solution at least one of the collocation points must lie in the boundary layer. In ...
متن کاملExistence and asymptotic stability of a periodic solution with boundary layers of reaction-diffusion equations with singularly perturbed Neumann boundary conditions
We consider singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion equations with singularly perturbed Neumann boundary conditions. We establish the existence of a time-periodic solution u(x, t, ε) with boundary layers and derive conditions for their asymptotic stability The boundary layer part of u(x, t, ε) is of order one, which distinguishes our case from the case of regularly perturbed Neumann boundary co...

In this article, we demonstrate how one can improve the numerical solution of singularly perturbed problems involving multiple boundary layers by using a combination of analytic and numerical tools. Incorporating the structures of boundary layers into finite element spaces can improve the accuracy of approximate solutions and result in significant simplifications. We discuss here convection-dif...
