چکیده

We study an extreme non-static limit of 2+1-dimensional QED obtained by making a dimensional reduction so that all fields are spatially uniform but time dependent. This dimensional reduction leads to a 0+1-dimensional field theory that inherits many of the features of the 2+1-dimensional model, such as Chern-Simons terms, time-reversal violation, an analogue of parity violation, and global U(2) flavor symmetry. At one-loop level, interactions induce a Chern-Simons term at finite T with coefficient tanh(F 2 ), where mF is the fermion mass. The finite temperature two loop self-energies are also computed, and are non-zero for all temperatures. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Parity-violating electromagnetic interactions in QED3 at finite temperature

We study the parity-breaking terms generated by the box diagram in 2+1 dimensional thermal QED. These lead, in the long wave limit, to a gauge invariant extensive action which behaves as 1/T at high temperature. In contrast, the effective action in the static limit involves leading non-extensive terms proportional to 1/T 3 at high temperature, which violate large gauge invariance. We derive a n...

0 Parity - breaking electromagnetic interactions in thermal QED 3

We examine the parity violating terms generated by the box diagram in QED3 at finite temperature. These lead to both extensive as well as non-extensive effective actions, which have very distinct behavior in the long wavelength and static limits. We discuss a large gauge Ward identity for the leading terms in the static limit, whose solution coincides with the effective action proposed earlier.

Dimensional Reduction at High Temperature Revisited

We give a perturbative analysis of dimensional reduction in the infinite-temperature limit of thermal field theory in the imaginary time formalism. In analogy with the ordinary (Appelquist-Carazzone) decoupling theorem, we seek a class of renormaliza-tion schemes in which the heavy (non-static) modes decouple. This class turns out to consist of temperature-dependent schemes, so that the appropr...

Calculation of Thermodynamic Properties of the Quasi-one Dimensional Liquid 3He at Finite Temperature

We have used a variational approach to calculate some thermodynamic properties of the quasi-one dimensional liquid 3He such as the energy, entropy, free energy, equation of state and heat capacity at finite temperature. We have employed the Lennard-Jones potential as the inter-atomic interaction. We have seen that the total energy increases by increasing both temperature and density....

Quantum criticality of D-wave quasiparticles and superconducting phase fluctuations.

We present finite temperature (T) extension of the (2+1)-dimensional QED (QED3) theory of under-doped cuprates. The theory describes nodal quasiparticles whose interactions with quantum proliferated hc/2e vortex-antivortex pairs are represented by an emergent U(1) gauge field. Finite T introduces a scale beyond which the spatial fluctuations of vorticity are suppressed. As a result, the spin su...
