چکیده

We study the problem of finding occurrences of motifs in vertex-colored graphs, where a motif is a multiset of colors, and an occurrence of a motif is a subset of connected vertices with a bijection between its colors and the colors of the motif. This problem has applications in metabolic network analysis, an important area in bioinformatics. We give two positive results and three negative results that together draw sharp borderlines between tractable and intractable instances of the problem.

Sharp Upper bounds for Multiplicative Version of Degree Distance and Multiplicative Version of Gutman Index of Some Products of Graphs

In $1994,$ degree distance  of a graph was introduced by Dobrynin, Kochetova and Gutman. And Gutman proposed the Gutman index of a graph in $1994.$ In this paper, we introduce the concepts of  multiplicative version of degree distance and the multiplicative version of Gutman index of a graph. We find the sharp upper bound for the  multiplicative version of degree distance and multiplicative ver...

Upper and lower bounds for finding connected motifs in vertex-colored graphs

We study the problem of finding occurrences of motifs in vertex-colored graphs, where a motif is a multiset of colors, and an occurrence of a motif is a subset of connected vertices whose multiset of colors equals the motif. This problem is a natural graph-theoretic pattern matching variant where we are not interested in the actual structure of the occurrence of the pattern, we only require it ...

Connected Tropical Subgraphs in Vertex-Colored Graphs

A subgraph of a vertex-colored graph is said to be tropical whenever it contains each color of the graph. In this work we study the problem of finding a minimal connected tropical subgraph. We first show that this problem is NP-Hard for trees, interval graphs and split graphs, but polynomial when the number of colors is logarithmic in terms of the order of the graph (i.e. FPT). We then provide ...

Finding Disjoint Paths on Edge-Colored Graphs: More Tractability Results

The problem of finding the maximum number of vertex-disjoint uni-color paths in an edge-colored graph (MaxCDP) has been recently introduced in literature, motivated by applications in social network analysis. In this paper we investigate how the complexity of the problem depends on graph parameters (distance from disjoint paths and size of vertex cover), and that is not FPT-approximable. Moreov...

Acyclicity in edge-colored graphs

A walk W in edge-colored graph is called properly colored (PC) if every pair of consecutive edges in W is of different color. We study five types of PC acyclicity in edge-colored graphs such that graphs of PC acyclicity of type i is a proper superset of graphs of acyclicity of type i+1, i = 1, 2, 3, 4. The first three types are equivalent to the absence of PC cycles, PC trails, and PC walks. Wh...
