Primary mediastinal trophoblastic teratomas.

چکیده
Three cases of primary mediastinal trophoblastic teratoma are described. One patient died from respiratory failure during the initial chemotherapy, Another patient with advanced disease is now apparently free from disease after multiple-drug chemotherapy. The third patient is alive and well four years after a combination of surgery, radiotherapy, and multiple-drug chemotherapy. In the diagnosis and assessment of response to treatment in these tumours emphasis is placed on the measurement of the tumour cell markers, chorionic gonadotrophin and alpha-fetoprotein, by radioimmunoassay. The efficacy of multiple-drug regimens is discussed together with a review of the literature.

متن کاملAnterior Mediastinal Mature Teratoma Focally Infiltrating Pulmonary Parenchyma
Teratomas are germ cell tumors. Mediastinum is the second most common extra-gonadal site of these tumors.[1-3] Mediastinal masses in children and adolescents are usually considered malignant. Even benign teratomas have been reported to transform to malignant ones in case of delayed diagnosis or presentation.[3-5] Moreover, large mediastinal teratoma without any long-term symptomatology is quite...
متن کاملMediastinal mature teratoma with complex rupture into the lung, bronchus and skin: a case report
Mature teratoma is the most common primary germ cell tumor in the mediastinum. On rare occasions, cystic teratomas rupture in adjacent structures, such as pleural space, pericardium, lung or tracheobronchial tree. We present a case of a mediastinal mature cystic teratoma in 16-year-old female with complex rupture into the lung, bronchus and skin. Mature mediastinal teratoma fistulized to the sk...

Mediastinal germ cell tumors are extragonadal germ cell tumors (EGGCTs) commonly seen in children and young adults. They are more common in men. Clinically they are classified as teratomas, seminomas, and nonseminomatous germ cell tumors. Primary mediastinal yolk sac neoplasm is an extremely rare tumor. We present here a very rare case of primary yolk sac tumor of the anterior mediastinum in a ...
متن کاملTrichoptysis due to an intrapulmonary teratoma.
Benign and malignant germ cell tumors are the fourth most common mediastinal tumor in adults. Benign teratomas constitute about 80% of these lesions in adults.1 By contrast, pulmonary teratomas are extremely rare; 44 cases have been reported in the English-language literature. The classic symptom that suggests an intrapulmonary teratoma is trichoptysis (expectoration of hair),2 which, though pa...
