چکیده

Chatterjee (8) and Rees and Waters (~ I ) suggested the value of examination of acid phosphatase activity in experimental and human leprosy. Hence certain we)) known anti mycobacterial agents like isonicotin ic acid hydrazide ( isoniazid, INH ), 2-ethylisothionicotinamide ( E t h ion a m ide , Trescatyl, 1314TH, Thioamid ), 4, 4'-diaminodiph en yl sulfon e ( DDS ), l(p-N,_ dimethylaminophenyl) 3 (p-n-butoxyphenylthiourea (Su. 1906) and p-acetylaminobenzaldehyde th iose m ica rb az on e (Conteben, TBI/ 698) were reassayed in experimental murine leprosy of ra ts with a view to determining if there is any relation between ' organ weights, necropsy findin gs, histopathologic findings and acid phosphatase activity.

Studies of lysosomal enzymes in macrophages. III. Lysosomal enzyme activities in cultured macrophages infected with some species of mycobacteria.

The present study deals with changes of lysosomal enzyme activity in cultured mouse pertioneal macrophages infected with .five species of mycobacieria. Infection with M tuberculosis raised acid phosphatase activity in macrophages. M bovis BCG and M microti also caused rise in this enzyme activity but not fi-glucuronidase activity. The cells infected with M leprae showed decrease in both acid ph...

Impact of Propionic Acid on Liver Damage in Rats

Propionic acid (PA) is a short chain fatty acid, a common food preservative and metabolic end product of enteric bacteria in the gut. The present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of PA on liver injury in male rats. Male western albino rats were divided into two groups. The first group served as normal control, the second was treated with PA. The activities of serum hepatospecific ...

Impairment of cell-mediated immune responses by infection with Mycobacterium lepraemurium.

The effect of chronic infection with Mycobacterium lepraemurium upon cell-mediated immune responses was studied in Lewis rats. Rats infected for 40 to 175 days were completely protected from attempted induction of experimental adjuvant disease, and the severity of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in leprous rats was markedly attenuated. Full manifestations of each autoimmune disease were...

Hepatoprotective efficacy of propolis extract (honeybee hive product, 200 mg/kg, p.o.) was studied against carbon-tetrachloride-(CCl 4, 0.15 ml/kg, i.p.) induced biochemical and histopathological changes. Silymarin, a known hepatoprotective drug was used as a positive control. Subchronic exposure to CCl 4 for 3 weeks (5 days a week) caused sharp elevation in the activity of liver enzymes i.e...
