چکیده

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis (MF) in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is closely related to systolic and diastolic cardiac failure and could be identified as a major independent value prediciting clinical outcome. It results from elevated levels of collagen and is therefore associated with an expansion of the extracellular volume (ECV). Up to now, the detection of MF requires myocardial biopsy. Recent reports indicate that CMR T1-Mapping has the potential to detect MF non-invasively. We compared the ECV values derived from T1-mapping with the collagen volume fraction (CVF) as meausured in histological samples.

Histological Validation of measurement of diffuse interstitial myocardial fibrosis by myocardial extravascular volume fraction from Modified Look-Locker imaging (MOLLI) T1 mapping at 3 T

BACKGROUND Gadolinium (Gd) Extracellular volume fraction (ECV) by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) has been proposed as a non-invasive method for assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. Yet only few studies used 3 T CMR to measure ECV, and the accuracy of ECV measurements at 3 T has not been established. Therefore the aims of the present study were to validate measurement of ECV by MO...

Non-invasive measurement of myocardial extracellular volume using T1 mapping as a novel biomarker of diffuse fibrosis in dilated cardiomyopathy

Background Diffuse myocardial fibrosis is frequently observed in histologies of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). T1-mapping techniques have the potential to measure fibrosis quantitatively and therefore provide novel cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) insights into myocardial tissue characterization beyond the presently employed late gadolinium enhanced (LGE) techniques. Fibrosis results in expansio...

T1 mapping in dilated cardiomyopathy with cardiac magnetic resonance: quantification of diffuse myocardial fibrosis and comparison with endomyocardial biopsy.

AIM The aim of this study was to determine the value of extracellular volume fraction (ECV) for the non-invasive assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis (MF) in different stages of systolic left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in comparison with endomyocardial biopsy. BACKGROUND Non-invasive ECV assessment using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) T1 mapping...

Native T1 mapping in patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy for the assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis: validation against histologic endomyocardial biopsy

Background Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) MRI provides a significant impact on prognosis in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) patients. However, LGE MRI is less suitable for quantifying the degree of fibrosis in diffusely diseased myocardium. T1 mapping technique allows for the quantitative assessment of extracellular volume fraction (ECV), which has been histologically validated against the coll...

Quantitative assessment of myocardial extracellular volume fraction in non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy and its relation to systolic dysfunction

Background Interstitial myocardial fibrosis is a histological hallmark of non-ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), and may play an important role in adverse remodelling and progressive systolic dysfunction. T1-mapping enables noninvasive assessment of diffuse fibrosis by quantification of myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV). We hypothesized that CMR would identify a raised ECV in D...
