Juvenile rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in Malaysia.
نویسنده
چکیده
45 patients (50 eyes) were treated for juvenile rhegmatogenous retinal detachments between August 1979 and July 1984. A review of these cases revealed high myopia and trauma to be the main aetiological factors. Eight-six per cent detachments were successfully reattached. Visual acuity of 6/36 or better was present in 16% preoperatively and in 52% postoperatively, Some of the characteristics of juvenile rhegmatogenous retinal detachments in Malaysian population arediscussed.

PURPOSE To evaluate retrospectively clinical features and surgical outcomes of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in juvenile patients. METHODS Between 1991 and 1996, 28 patients younger than 15 years of age with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (32 eyes) underwent the first surgical procedure, scleral buckling and/or pars plana vitrectomy, at our hospital. RESULTS The major types of juveni...

متن کاملRetinoschisis transposition following a retinal detachment repair
OBJECTIVE The authors have observed this phenomenon of translocation of the schisis cavity in a few previous cases and aim to report this unusual finding. METHOD A patient with known superotemporal retinoschisis developed a distinctly separate inferotemporal retinal detachment in his left eye. This was repaired with a vitrectomy, cryotherapy and C2F6 tamponade under local anaesthetic. Followi...
متن کاملShifting subretinal fluid in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.
In a consecutive series of 470 cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment 25 (5%) were found to have shifting subretinal fluid (SRF) at the preoperative examination. The study showed that the association between SRF and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment is unusual but not rare. Shifting SRF was most often associated with aphakic and longstanding retinal detachment, and found in cases in which t...
متن کاملBilateral Simultaneous Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment following Laser in situ Keratomileusis
A 21-year-old woman developed simultaneous rhegmatogenous retinal detachment after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in both eyes. She underwent pars plana vitrectomy surgery combined with endolaser photocoagulation and silicone oil tamponade in the right eye. A week later, pneumatic retinopexy was done in the left eye. As the retinal tear did not seal, 360° scleral buckling surgery was perf...
