Comparative Study of Hole Taper in Nd : YAG Laser Micro - drilling of Advanced Engineering Materials

The present study investigates the relationships and parameter interactions between three controllable variables (lamp current, pulse frequency and air pressure) on hole taper in micro-drilling operations, in order to assess the effect of the different process parameters and also material properties in laser micro-drilling operations. Micro-drilling experiments have been conducted for Gamma-Titanium Aluminide alloy, AluminaAluminium interpenetrating phase composites (IPC) and Titanium Nitride-Alumina ceramic composite. The central composite design (CCD) was employed to plan the experiments in order to achieve required information with reduced number of experiments.
