چکیده

An optical cross-connect architecture based on wavelength routing is proposed. The design utilises an input waveband conversion stage followed by an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) to enable optical switching and an output single wavelength conversion stage for wavelength assignment and regeneration. Arranging the AWG in feedback or foldback loop configuration the requirement for an output multiplexer is eliminated. The proposed solution supports wavelength switching granularity while offering reduced component requirements. Experimental and modelling results indicate very good system performance of the node as the output conversion stage offers regenerating characteristics.

Multigranular Optical Cross-connect Architectures

The rapid advances in dense wavelength-division multiplexing technology with hundreds of wavelengths per fiber and worldwide fiber deployment have brought about a tremendous increase in the size (i.e., number of ports) of photonic cross-connects, as well as in the cost and difficulty associated with controlling such large cross-connects. Waveband Switching (WBS) has attracted attention for its ...

Compact Matrix-Switch-Based Hierarchical Optical Path Cross-Connect with Colorless Waveband Add/Drop Ratio Restriction

We propose a compact matrix-switch-based hierarchical optical cross-connect (HOXC) architecture that effectively handles the colorless waveband add/drop ratio restriction so as to realize switch scale reduction. In order to implement the colorless waveband add/drop function, we develop a wavelength MUX/DMUX that can be commonly used by different wavebands. We prove that the switch scale of the ...

Architecture design and performance evaluation of multigranularity optical networks based on optical code division multiplexing

In traditional lambda-based multigranularity optical networks, a lambda is always treated as the basic routing unit, resulting in low wavelength utilization. On the basis of optical code division multiplexing (OCDM) technology, a novel OCDM-based multigranularity optical cross-connect (MG-OXC) is proposed. Compared with the traditional lambda-based MG-OXC, its switching capability has been exte...

Minimum Wavelength for Optimal Waveband in WDM Network Using Mesh Topology

ABSTRACT: An optical cross-connect can be achieved by grouping together a set of consecutive wavelengths and switching them as a single waveband. This technique is known as waveband switching. This paper focus on the number of wavebands and their sizes for ring topologies. It presents a novel framework for optimizing the number of wavebands in a ring network for deterministic traffic. The object...

Full-mesh T- and O-band wavelength router based on arrayed waveguide gratings.

We propose an ultra-broadband full-mesh wavelength router supporting the T- and O-bands using 3 stages of cascaded arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs). The router architecture is based on a combination of waveband and channel routing by coarse and fine AWGs, respectively. We fabricated several T-band-specific silica-based AWGs and quantum dot semiconductor optical ampliers as part of the router, ...
