چکیده

Introduction This paper overviews some research at MERL related to the task of inferring the intentions of people interacting with computers and/or each other. First, we discuss techniques developed as part of the Collagen project for inferring the intentions of individuals engaged in oneon-one collaboration. We then describe two projects, Human-Guided Search and the Personal Digital Historian, which support face-to-face group collaboration. These two projects currently do not employ, but could benefit from, techniques for inferring the intentions of groups of people engaged in collaborative activities.

Inference for the median residual life function in sequential multiple assignment randomized trials.

In survival analysis, median residual lifetime is often used as a summary measure to assess treatment effectiveness; it is not clear, however, how such a quantity could be estimated for a given dynamic treatment regimen using data from sequential randomized clinical trials. We propose a method to estimate a dynamic treatment regimen-specific median residual life (MERL) function from sequential ...

Enhancing Teamwork Through Team-Level Intent Inference

Applications that have access to user intent and task context can support better, faster decision-making on the part of the user. In this paper, we present AUTOS, an approach to the implementation of individual and team intent inference. AUTOS uses observable contextual clues to infer current operator task state and predict future task state. Guided by the concepts of activity theory, AUTOS tas...

Toward a deeper understanding of user intent and query expressiveness

Understanding the intents of the search users have recently been a popular research topic among Information Retrieval community. Accurate inference of the intent is a major goal of today’s search engines. Ranking the relevant Web documents, targeting better advertisements, assisting the user with better suggested queries are just a few applications where understanding the intent plays a key rol...

Correction: Statistical Computations on Grassmann and Stiefel Manifolds for Image and Video-Based Recognition

In this paper, we examine image and video based recognition applications where the underlying models have a special structure – the linear subspace structure. We discuss how commonly used parametric models for videos and image-sets can be described using the unified framework of Grassmann and Stiefel manifolds. We first show that the parameters of linear dynamic models are finite dimensional li...
