A comparative study of estrogen receptor beta expression in melanoma and benign melanocytic lesions
Background: Malignant melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer. In contrast to other tumors, the role of estrogen in the initiation and progression of melanoma remains unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate estrogen receptor beta protein expression in human melanoma tissues and in the benign melanocytic lesions. Method: Twenty-one patients, 11 with cutaneous melanoma and 10 w...
متن کاملExpression of cyclooxygenase-2 in melanocytic skin lesions by immunohistochemistry
Introduction: cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is involved in pathogenesis of various tumors and possibly malignant skin tumors including malignant melanoma; however, there is not enough information about COX-2 expression in benign melanocytic lesions. In the present study we compared the expression levels of COX-2 in malignant melanoma and benign melanocytic lesions. Method: In this analytical study, ...
متن کاملThe Epidemiology of Non-Melanocytic Benign and Malignant Skin Tumors in Pediatric Patients Attending to the Dermatology Department

The objective of the study was to describe the epidemiology of non-melanocytic skin tumors in children attending to our dermatology department. METHOD The histopathologic studies of all skin punch and excisional biopsies ...
متن کاملPigmented Skin Lesions in Children (Melanocytic Nevus, Clonal Nevus and Halo Nevus) — Symptoms and Treatment
Benign pigmented skin lesions are very common in children and can be generally classified into congenital or acquired nevi. Congenital nevi can be small, medium or large. Large nevi are usually associated with a higher risk of malignant transformation into melanoma. Acquired melanocytic nevi can be classified into typical melanocytic nevi, clonal nevi, or halo nevi. Cytological atypia can be ob...
متن کاملInterventional three-year longitudinal study of melanocytic naevus development in pre-school children in Dresden, Saxony.
Acquired melanocytic naevi (MN) are considered a risk factor for melanoma. Exposure to ultraviolet light (UV) is the major environmental factor for MN. UV protection is most critical in pre-school children. This 3-year interventional longitudinal study examined 395 3-year-old children attending daycare centres (DCC) in Dresden, Germany. Photo-skin type, eye and hair colour were recorded. DCC we...
متن کاملRetrospective analysis of melanocytic lesions in children at the National Cancer Institute-RJ*
Skin cancer is the most common neoplasm in Brazil. Melanoma accounts for 4% of these neoplasms. Although childhood melanoma is rare, there is evidence that its incidence is increasing, placing it among the most important public health problems for the future. This work sought to conduct a retrospective review of cases of suspected melanocytic skin lesions in children, their diagnosis and manage...
