چکیده

Mass Spring networks are commonly used to produce simu lations of deformable bodies for computer animation However such an approach can produce inaccurate results if too coarse a discretisation is employed and so many animators use excessively large and slow net works In order to remove the guesswork from such an approach this paper presents a mechanism for adaptively re ning portions of such sys tems to a required accuracy thereby producing more pleasing results at a reduced computational cost Following a discussion of the use of such an approach in simulating a deformable sheet we present several character istic examples to demonstrate its suitability

A Comparison of Three Adaptive Finite Element Re nement Techniques for Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations Using a CBS Scheme

The numerical solution of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for ows involving complex geometries is greatly a ected by mesh resolution. In these ows, some regions may need ner mesh than others. Adaptive Mesh Re nement (AMR) techniques enable the mesh to be locally re ned, based on error distribution in the previous analysis. In this paper, three adaptive re nement methods, namely, Supercon...

An Output-Based Dynamic Order Re nement Strategy for Unsteady Aerodynamics

An output-based dynamic order re nement strategy is presented for unsteady simulations using the discontinuous Galerkin nite element method in space and time. A discrete unsteady adjoint solution provides scalar output error estimates and drives adaptive re nement of the space-time mesh. Space-time anisotropy is measured using projection of the adjoint onto semi-re ned spaces and is used to all...

Feature-Driven Cartesian Adaptive Mesh Re nement in the Helios Code

Feature-detection methods are applied to drive Cartesian-based adaptive mesh re nement for improved vortex resolution in aerodynamics ow elds. Several approaches such as the Q-criterion, the eigenvalues of velocity gradient tensor and the identi cation of local pressure minima are considered. Speci c attention is given to the automation of the renement process so that it is applicable to a wide...

Using geometrically, topologically and materially unstructured methods to reduce mesh dependency in dynamic cohesive fracture simulations

We present a method to reduce mesh bias in dynamic fracture simulations using the fi nite element method withadaptive insertion of extrinsic cohesive zone elements along element boundaries. The geometry of the domaindiscretization is important in this setting because cracks are only allowed to propagate along element facets andcan potentially bias the crack paths. To reduce mesh...
