چکیده

In clinical studies, patients are usually accrued sequentially, and, in such cases, response-adaptive designs are useful tools to generate treatment allocation schemes in which the assignment of a treatment to an incoming patient is a function of the observed treatment responses thus far. It has been shown that among the various classes of designs, doubly adaptive biased coin designs have several advantageous properties over other response-adaptive designs under the assumption that their responses can be obtained immediately after testing. However, it is a common occurrence that responses are observed only after a certain period of time. In this article, we examine the effect of delayed responses on doubly adaptive biased coin designs and derive some relevant asymptotic properties. A major finding is that doubly adaptive biased coin designs are relatively insensitive to delayed responses under widely satisfied conditions. A simulation study is also reported to provide a better understanding of the effects of delayed responses. Asymptotic Properties of Doubly Adaptive Biased Coin Designs for Multitreatment Clinical Trials By

A general doubly adaptive biased coin design is proposed for the allocation of subjects to K treatments in a clinical trial. This design follows the same spirit as Efron’s biased coin design and applies to the cases where the desired allocation proportions are unknown, but estimated sequentially. Strong consistency, a law of the iterated logarithm and asymptotic normality of this design are obt...

6 Adaptive Allocation Theory in Clinical Trials – A Review ∗

Various adaptive randomization procedures (adaptive designs) have been proposed to clinical trials. This paper discusses several broad families of procedures, such as the play-the-winner rule and Markov chain model, randomized play-the-winner rule and urn models, drop-the-loser rule, doubly biased coin adaptive design. Asymptotic theories are presented with several pivotal proofs. The effect of...

Adaptive Biased-coin Designs for Clinical Trials with Several Treatments

Adaptive designs are used in phase III clinical trials for skewing the allocation pattern towards the better treatments. We use optimum design theory to provide a skewed biased-coin procedure for sequential designs with continuous responses. The skewed designs are used to provide adaptive designs, the performance of which is studied numerically for designs with three treatments. Important prope...

Asymptotic Properties of Adaptive Designs via Strong Approximations∗

Various adaptive designs have been proposed and applied to clinical trials, bioassay, psychophysics, etc. More and more people have been paying attention to these design methods. Via strong approximations, this paper presents asymptotic properties of several broad families of designs, such as the play-the-winner rule, randomized play-the-winner rule and its generalization to the multi-arm case,...

Application of adaptive sampling in fishery part 2: Truncated adaptive cluster sampling designs

There are some experiences that researcher come across quite number of time for very large networks in the initial samples such that they cannot finish the sampling procedure. Two solutions have been proposed and used by marine biologists which we discuss in this article: i) Adaptive cluster sampling based on order statistics with a stopping rule, ii) Restricted adaptive cluster sampling. Until...
