چکیده

Orthodontic mechanotherapy encompasses the use of several archwlres during specific stages of treatment. Stainless steel, Nickel titanium (NITI), thermally activated Nickel titanium (CuNiTi), & b titanium (TMA) wires are the ones predominantly In use. The efficiency of sliding mechanics depends upon minimizing friction at the bracket arch wire interface. Friction may be Influenced by several factors such as the force with which the archwlre contacts the brackets, the contact angle between the archwire and bracket as well as the surface characteristics of the brackets and archwires. Alteration of the surface characteristics of archwires by way of pitting and corrosion of the surface would add to the coefficient of friction in the mechanics, thereby compromiSing the sliding of brackets along archwlres.

A review of the requirements and hazards of toxic metals from orthodontic wires

Background: Orthodontics is a part of dentistry that includes preventive methods and correction of dental irregularities that need to be repositioned by functional and mechanical tools to provide an ideal occlusion and a beautiful face for patients. There are currently four metal arch wires used in orthodontic treatment: stainless steel alloy, cobalt-chromium alloy, nickel-titanium alloy, and b...

Effects of three different mouthwashes on the surface characteristics of nickel-titanium and Stainless steel archwires in orthodontics

Introduction: Patients are recommended regular using of mouthwashes to control dental caries or periodontal diseases since orthodontic treatment may have detrimental effects on the tooth structures. However, chemical agents may potentially damage metal components of orthodontic appliances. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of three mouthwashes on the surface characteristics of...

Evaluation of the mechanical properties and surface topography of as-received, immersed and as-retrieved orthodontic archwires

BACKGROUND AND AIMS This experimental study mainly aims at comparing the most important mechanical properties of the new orthodontic archwires, those immersed in fluorinated solution, the as-retrieved ones and the intra-oral used ones. METHODS A total of 270 arch wires were tested, using tensile testing and three-point bending tests. The tested archwires were made of Stainless Steel, Nickel T...
