چکیده
By M. C. BLANCHAER, P. T. GREEN, J. P. MACLEAN AND M. J. HOLLENBERG W IDE ACCEPTANCE of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase estimations1 for the detection of myocardial infarction has stimulated interest in the possible diagnostic uses of other plasma enzymes, including lactic acid dehydrogenase ( LD ) and phosphohexose isomerase ( PHI ) . Both of these enzymes play a role in the intracellular process of glycolysis.2 Abnormally elevated plasma levels have been found in hepatocellular disease,3’4 myocardial infarction3 and neoplastic disease, including certain types of leukemia. Plasma LD was found to be raised in acute stem cell leukemia3 and chronic myelocytic leukemia, btit was normal in two of the three cases of chronic lymphocytic leukemia reported. Isracls and Delory7 found that the plasma PHI was increased in chronic myelocytic leukemia, but not in the chronic lymphocytic type nor in the leukocytosis of infections. In the present work the plasma LD has been examined in various types of leukemia in relation to the plasma PHi levels, the response to treatment and the presence of hemolytic disease.

The enzymes phosphohexose isomerase, lactate dehydrogenase, hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase, isocitric dehydrogenase, glutamate dehydrogenase, and sorbital dehydrogenase were assayed in cases of known carcinoma of the cervix and of carcinoma in situ. Phosphohexose isomerase, lactate dehydrogenase, and isocitric dehydrogenase were also assayed in a number of normal women and in those with benign l...
متن کاملComparison of phosphohexose isomerase and lactic dehydrogenase activities in plasma, liver, and tumor tissue of tumor-bearing rats.
The mechanisms underlying increases in the activity of various enzymes in the serum or plasma are, in general, incompletely understood. It has been stated that the plasma enzymes are derived from cellular elements either in the tissue or in the blood and that the level of circulating enzymes is therefore an index of the rate of disintegration of such cells (8). On the other hand, in some instan...

The activities of the enzymes lactate dehydrogenase, 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and phosphohexose isomerase in primary human breast cancer biopsies are shown to be related to the time between mastectomy and recurrence of the cancer. These enzymes have higher activity in malignant breast tissues generally than in non-malignant breast tissues. In tumours from patients with long free period...

Although it has been stated that plasma or serum enzymes are derived from the destruction of cellular elements in the blood or tissues (8), indirect evidence has recently been accumulating that enzymes may pass outward from the cell into the extracellular fluid and thence into the circulation in ways other than those involving necrosis or destruction of the cell (2, 3, 5, 8). It has long been k...

The enzyme activities of Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). prostate fluid LDH isoenzymes phosphohexose isomerase (PHI), Aldolase (ALD) and Hexokinase (HK) were determined in the sera of 77 samples of males. There were 12 cases of carcinoma prostate with metastases, 15 without metastases, 25 with benign prostatic hypertrophy and 25 nontumor. The enzyme activities of nontumor and benign group were sta...
