چکیده

The differential energy spectrum of splash albedo protons has been measured at high geomagnetic latitude near Fort Churchill, Manitoba, at three periods of the solar cycle in 1966, 1967, and 1969 and at low latitude near Palestine, Texas, in 1967 by using a balloon-borne solid state detector telescope. We observed splash albedo proton fluxes between 4 and 315 MeV of 81 + 11, 70 + 11, and 48 + 8 protons/(m 2 s sr) at high latitude in 1966, 1967, and 1969 and of 37 + 9 protons/(m 2 s sr) at low latitude in 1967. The decreases from 1966 to 1969 are due to solar modulation of the cosmic ray parent nuclei. The albedo spectrum shows a similar shape for both latitudes. The difference in intensity can be explained by different local geomagnetic cutoffs; i.e., a significant contribution to the splash albedo flux arises from primary particles with rigidity below 4.5 GV. The splash albedo flux near Fort Churchill is consistent with corresponding fluxes previously reported near 53ø-55øN. The flux below 100 MeV near Palestine is significantly lower than that reported by Verma (1967).

Investigation of the direct DNA damages irradiated by protons of different energies using geant4-DNA toolkit

Background: The total yields of direct Single-Strand Breaks (SSBs) and Double-Strand Breaks (DSBs) in proton energies varying from 0.1 to 40 MeV were calculated. While other studies in this field have not used protons with energy less than 0.5 MeV, our results show interesting and complicated behavior of these protons. Materials and Methods: The simulation has been done using the Geant4-DNA too...

Origin of leptons in near earth orbit

It is shown that the ratio of the e + over e − flux below the geomagnetic cutoff reported recently by the AMS experiment is due to the geomagnetic East-West effect. New measurements of particle fluxes close to earth have been performed recently by the AMS experiment, providing a body of highly accurate new data on particle populations in the close terrestrial environment, which open new prospec...

Assessment of The Relation Between Energy Of Primary Protons And Undesired Neutron Dose During Proton Therapy By Monte Carlo Method

Introduction: High-energy beams of protons offer significant advantages for the treatment of deepseated local tumors. Their physical depth-dose distribution in tissue is characterized by a small entrance dose and a distinct maximum -Bragg peak- near the end of range with a sharp fall-off at the distal edge. Alongside its advantages there are some point that they need to meticul...

Proton beam dosimetry by CR-39 track-etched detector

Background: High and intermediate energy protons are not able to form a track in a solid state nuclear track detector (SSNTD) directly. However, such tracks can be formed through secondary particles created during primary radiation nuclear reactions in a SSNTD. Materials and Methods: The protons with primary energies of 9.6 and 30 MeV available at the cyclotron accelerator with corresponding lo...

Spatial and Temporal Variability of the Gamma Radiation from Earth’s Atmosphere during a Solar Cycle

The Solar Maximum Mission satellite’s Gamma Ray Spectrometer spent much of its 1980–1989 mission pointed at Earth, accumulating spectra of atmospheric albedo γ-rays. Its 28◦ orbit ensured that a range of geomagnetic latitudes was sampled. We measured the variation with time and cutoff rigidity of some key γ-ray lines which are diagnostic of the intensity of the Galactic cosmic radiation penetra...
