Disseminated tuberculosis following the placement of ureteral stents: a case repot
نویسنده
چکیده
BACKGROUND Miliary tuberculosis occurs as a result of hematogenous dissemination of Mycobacerium tuberculosis. This can occur due to progressive primary infection, reactivation of latent focus with subsequent spread, or rarely via iatrogenic origin. CASE PRESENTATION This is a case of 21 year-old woman presented with hydronephrosis and hematuria due to unrecognized renal tuberculosis. She underwent bilateral ureteral stent placement which lead to dissemination of the Mycobateria through the blood causing pulmonary tuberculosis and multiple tuberculous abscesses in the paraspinous muscles, pleural space and skin. CONCLUSION Disseminated tuberculosis due to Mycobacteremia after surgical intervention is a rare complication. Mycobacteria should be considered among other more common microorganisms that can cause post operative bacteremia.

Percutaneous nephrostomy: a non-operative management of urinomas: 2 case reports.
Uretero-retropentoneal fistulas (urinomas) occur most commonly following penetrating trauma or calculi. Despite the large variety of surgical procedures advocated for the management of ureteral fistulas or urinornas, the results are suboptimal. Conservative treatment by endoscopic placement of indwelling ureteral stents is often preferred. Adaptation of antegrade percutaneous stents offers an e...
متن کاملCase report: Azotemia secondary to bilateral ureteral kinking from ureteral stents placed at the time of bladder exstrophy closure.
We report the case of a neonate who underwent bladder exstrophy repair on the second day of life. Bilateral ureteral stents were placed intra-operatively. Postoperatively azotemia developed secondary to kinking of the proximal ureter bilaterally. Issues in diagnosis and management are discussed.
متن کاملFluoroscopic Placement of Double-Pigtail Ureteral Stents
PURPOSE Double-pigtail ureteral stent is placed cystoscopically after ureteroscopy. We describe a technique for fluoroscopic placement of ureteral stents and demonstrate its use in a non-randomized prospective study. MATERIALS AND METHODS Double-pigtail stents were placed either fluoroscopically or cystoscopically in 121 consecutive patients. In the fluoroscopic method, the stent was placed o...
متن کاملOutcomes of metallic stents for malignant ureteral obstruction.
PURPOSE Malignant ureteral obstruction often necessitates chronic urinary diversion and is associated with high rates of failure with traditional ureteral stents. We evaluated the outcomes of a metallic stent placed for malignant ureteral obstruction and determined the impact of risk factors previously associated with increased failure rates of traditional stents. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patien...
متن کاملAn Extremely Rare Complication of Ureteral Pigtail Stent Placement: A Case Report
Double-J (DJ) stents are the main tools used in urological practice for prevention and treatment of obstruction. Stenting is also mandatory after complicated ureteroscopy or TUL (Transureteral Lithotripsy). Known complications are upper migration of DJ stents into the kidney and lower migration to the bladder. In a man with an impacted right lower ureteral stone, a DJ stent was placed because t...
