چکیده
We show that if p is prime and A is a sum-free subset of Z/pZ with n := |A| > 0.33p, then A is contained in a dilation of the interval [n, p−n] (mod p).

On sum-free sets modulo p
Let p be a sufficiently large prime and A be a sum-free subset of Z/pZ; improving on a previous result of V. F. Lev, we show that if |A| = card(A) > 0.324p, then A is contained in a dilation of the interval [|A| , p− |A|] (mod. p).

A finite subset A of an abelian group G is said to be zero-free if the identity element of G cannot be written as a sum of distinct elements from A. In this article we study the structure of zero-free subsets of Z/pZ the cardinality of which is close to largest possible. In particular, we determine the cardinality of the largest zero-free subset of Z/pZ, when p is a sufficiently large prime. Fo...
متن کاملAN ADDITION THEOREM AND MAXIMAL ZERO-SUM FREE SETS IN Z/pZ
Using the polynomial method in additive number theory, this article establishes a new addition theorem for the set of subsums of a set satisfying A ∩ (−A) = ∅ in Z/pZ: |Σ(A)| > min p, 1 + |A|(|A|+ 1) 2 ff . The proof is similar in nature to Alon, Nathanson and Ruzsa’s proof of the Erdös-Heilbronn conjecture (proved initially by Dias da Silva and Hamidoune [10]). A key point in the proof of th...

متن کاملN ov 2 00 7 Mapping Incidences
We show that any finite system S in a characteristic zero integral domain can be mapped to Z/pZ, for infinitely many primes p, preserving all algebraic incidences in S. This can be seen as a generalization of the well-known Freiman isomorphism lemma, which asserts that any finite subset of a torsion-free group can be mapped into Z/pZ, preserving all linear incidences. As applications, we derive...
