Ultrasound Evaluation of Normal and Abnormal Posterior Cruciate Ligament - a Prospective Study

چکیده
the sensitivity and specificity of Ultrasound in diagnosing Posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) pathology. MATERIALS AND METH ODS: This prospective study was conducted over a period of 8 months and included 110 patients. An ultrasound of the knee was performed before the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and a diagnosis regarding PCL appearance was made on the ultrasound. After the ultrasound an MRI using standard protocol was performed and the ultrasound and MRI findings were compared. RESULTS: Sensitivity of ultrasound in recognizing PCL pathology was 90.90%. Specificity was 100%.Positive predictive value was 100%.Negative predictive value was 99%. Significant correlation was found between the ultrasound and MRI appearance of PCL pathology. CONCLUSION: Ultrasound is sensitive in the detection of PCL injury, with an excellent positive predictive value and high sensitivity. Sonographic evaluation of the posterior cruciate ligament in amputated specimens and normal subjects.
The purpose of this study was to define the sonographic appearance and echogenicity of the normal posterior cruciate ligament. We examined the posterior cruciate ligament of five amputated specimens and five normal subjects using a 10 MHz linear array transducer. One K-wire was inserted into the substance of the posterior cruciate ligament of the amputated knee specimens to verify the location ...
متن کاملA review of ultrasonographic methods for the assessment of the anterior cruciate ligament in patients with knee instability – diagnostics using a posterior approach
AIM The purpose of the study was to improve the ultrasonographic assessment of the anterior cruciate ligament by an inclusion of a dynamic element. The proposed functional modification aims to restore normal posterior cruciate ligament tension, which is associated with a visible change in the ligament shape. This method reduces the risk of an error resulting from subjectively assessing the shap...
متن کاملPosterior Cruciate Ligament: Current Concepts Review
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the largest and strongest ligament in the human knee, and the primary posteriorstabilizer. Recent anatomy and biomechanical studies have provided an improved understanding of PCL function. PCLinjuries are typically combined with other ligamentous, meniscal and chondral injuries. Stress radiography has becomean important and validated objective measure in...
متن کاملPosterior cruciate ligament removal contributes to abnormal knee motion during posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty.
Abnormal anterior translation of the femur on the tibia has been observed in mid flexion (20-60 degrees ) following posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty. The underlying biomechanical causes of this abnormal motion remain unknown. The purpose of this study was to isolate the effects of posterior cruciate ligament removal on knee motion after total knee arthroplasty. We posed two question...

BACKGROUND The effectiveness of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction for restoring normal knee kinematics is largely unknown, particularly during sports movements generating large, rapidly applied forces. HYPOTHESIS Under dynamic in vivo loading, significant differences in 3-dimensional kinematics exist between anterior cruciate ligament-reconstructed knees and the contralateral, uninjur...
