Numerical Studies on Reformulation Techniques for Continuous Network Design with Asymmetric User Equilibria

چکیده
In this article, we aim to find the most effective reformulation techniques to solve the MPCC (mathematical program with complementarity constraints) model that we proposed recently for continuous network design problems under asymmetric user equilibria. The MPCC model is based on a link-node nonlinear complementarity formulation for asymmetric user equilibria. By applying various reformulation techniques for the lower level nonlinear complementarity, the original bilevel formulation can be converted to a single level nonlinear programming problem. We show that certain reformulations are more effective than others to solve the proposed MPCC model. Recommendations are thus provided on how to choose a reformulation of the continuous network design problem that can be solved effectively and/or efficiently. DOI: 10.4018/978-1-4666-0933-4.ch008

Design of a new asymmetric waveguide in InP-Based multi-quantum well laser
Today, electron leakage in InP-based separate confinement laser diode has a serious effect on device performance. Control of electron leakage current is the aim of many studies in semiconductor laser industry. In this study, for the first time, a new asymmetric waveguide structure with n-interlayer for a 1.325 μm InP-based laser diode with InGaAsP multi-quantum well is proposed and theoreticall...
متن کاملFeasible and Descent Direction Method for Continuous Equilibrium Network Design Problem
In this study, we firstly express the stochastic user equilibrium traffic assignment problem in asymmetric traffic network as variation inequality model and then formulate ntinuous network design problem as mathematical program with equilibrium constraints. When path flow travel cost function is continuous, differentiable and strong monotone, the solution of variational inequality follows logit...
متن کاملThe Dynamic System of the Traffic Assignment Problem: Part III. Incorporating Traffic Dynamics
In the two preceding papers, we established the so-called J-system as the dynamic system of the traffic assignment problem for static case and developed corresponding numerical solution methods. In this paper, we present J-system formulation of the dynamic traffic assignment problem. Here we first extend the definition of J-functions of First-In-First-Out violation for a dynamic traffic network...
متن کاملOn the Relationship Between Supply Chain and Transportation Network Equilibria: A Supernetwork Equivalence with Computations
In this paper, we consider the relationship between supply chain network equilibrium and transportation network equilibrium. We demonstrate that a supply chain network equilibrium model introduced earlier can be reformulated as a transportation network equilibrium model with elastic demands through a supernetwork reformulation of the former. This equivalence allows us to transfer the wealth of ...
متن کاملApplication of Particle Swarm Optimization and Genetic Algorithm Techniques to Solve Bi-level Congestion Pricing Problems
The solutions used to solve bi-level congestion pricing problems are usually based on heuristic network optimization methods which may not be able to find the best solution for these type of problems. The application of meta-heuristic methods can be seen as viable alternative solutions but so far, it has not received enough attention by researchers in this field. Therefore, the objective of thi...
