چکیده

The present study examines the efficacy of the exercise electrocardiogram using the isotonic bicycle ergometer and isometric handgrip in predicting the extent of coronary obstructive disease, coronary collaterals, and abnormalities of left ventricular contraction (asynergy) in 65 patients. Of 32 patients with a normal isotonic exercise electrocardiogram, 25 had a normal coronary arteriogram (78.i%). Of the 32, 7 (2I 9%) were false negatives (normal exercise electrocardiogram with abnormal coronary arteriogram). Conversely, 5 of 3I patients (i6-i%) were false positives (abnormal exercise electrocardiogram with normal coronary arteriogram). In contrast, only 3 of 53 patients tested with isometric handgrip had abnormal electrocardiograms. This correlated with the finding that the product of systolic pressure and heart rate achieved with bicycle ergometry

Incidence of arrhythmias induced by isometric and dynamic exercise.

The incidence of arrhythmias during isometric sustained handgrip exercise and during dynamic graded bicycle exercise was compared in a group of 45 patients with various forms of heart disease on no antiarrhythmic therapy. Atrial arrhythmias were equally common during handgrip and bicycle exercise but ventricular arrhythmias were more frequent during handgrip exercise. Of the 45 patients, 38 per...

A comparison of methods of analysing exercise tests for diagnosis of coronary artery disease.

The diagnostic accuracy of the following methods of analysing exercise tests were evaluated: (a) the cumulative area of ST segment depression during exercise normalised for workload and heart rate (exercise score); (b) discriminant analysis of electrocardiographic exercise variables, workload, and symptoms; and (c) ST segment amplitude changes during exercise adjusted for heart rate. Three hund...

Using of spectral analysis of heart rate variability for increasing reliability of bicycle ergometry results

The aim was to study the suitability of the heart rate variability (HRV) spectral parameters for evaluations of bicycle ergometry results in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients. Methods. Our study included 243 male CHD patients aged 49±8 years. The coronary atherosclerosis was assessed by coronary angiography. The results of bicycle ergometry, Doppler echocardiography and HRV spectral analysi...
