Comparison of atomic absorption spectrophotometry and fluorometry for the measurement of serum calcium.

چکیده
An atomic absorption spectrophotometric (AAS) and a fluorometric method for the measurement of serum calcium were found to be corn-parablein acceptable reproducibility. The recovery figures obtained by the fluorornetric procedure were considerably lower than those given by AAS in the 2-4 mEq./L. range, although recoveriesat higher levels (6 mEq./L.) were acceptable. The average recovery for the fluorometric method throughout the range 2-6 mEq./L. was 83.8%; for AAS, 98.9%. Marked interference was observedin the fluorometric method when hemolyzed or icteric serum was assayed. In four groups of hospital patients-premature infants, newborn infants, older children, and adults-AAS gave ranges for serum calcium valueswhich were higher than those obtained by fluorometry.

Comparison of serum calcium measurements obtained with the SMA 12-60 and by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
Comparable results are obtained when serum calcium is measured by a colorimetric cresolpthalein method on the Technicon SMA 12/60 and by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (Instrumentation Laboratory Model 153 instrument), with strontium as an internal standard. Sera from 250 patients with abnormal calcium concentrations, ranging from 4.9 mg/lOU ml to 9.0 mg/100 ml, were measured by each metho...
متن کاملApplication of Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry in the Determination of Calcium in Serum.
Atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) was applied to the determination of serum calcium. A special diluent was developed to abolish the effect of absorption depressors. This made possible measurement of calcium in directly diluted serum samples without prior removal of any serum constituents. Values obtained by AAS on calcium oxalate precipitates from serum were identical with those found b...
متن کاملNormal serum calcium levels by atomic absorption spectroscopy.
THE INITIAL STUDIES BY WILLIS (2, 3) and the more recent work of Zettner and Seligson (i) and others (4-7, 9-11) have proven the utility of atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) in the clinical laboratory. However, until very recently there has been very little if any published information dealing with normal serum calcium values by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (11). The primary purp...
متن کاملAutomated atomic absorption spectrophotometry. II. The determination of serum magnesium.
The flow system developed for the determination of serum calcium by automated atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS) was adapted to the determination of serum magnesium. A comparison of the results of analyses by the present procedure and by an automated fluorometric procedure on identical serum specimens shows excellent agreement. from this laboratory described tile application of automated...
متن کاملEstimation of calcium and magnesium in serum and urine by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
A method has been described for the estimation of calcium and magnesium in serum and urine using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The precision and accuracy of the techniques have been determined and were found to be acceptable. THE RANGE OF VALUES FOR CALCIUM AND MAGNESIUM IN THE SERA OF NORMAL ADULTS WAS FOUND TO BE: serum calcium (corrected to a specific gravity of 1.026) 8.38-10.08 mg. ...
