چکیده

This study investigated vocal-fold contact characteristics through electroglottography (EGG) and related them to vibratory behavior as seen through high-speed videoendoscopy (HSV). When the EGG cycle was broken down into phases, the contacting phase represented an increasing percentage of the whole cycle as the EGG signal moved through three registers (pulse, modal, and falsetto). Conversely, the decontacting phase corresponded to a decreasing percentage of the EGG cycle as it moved through the same registers. Furthermore, comparisons of the HSV images and the EGG signal indicated close relationships between specific EGG features and the onset of contact of the vocal folds, maximal contact between the vocal folds, and maximal loss of contact between mucus bridges.

Imaging vibrating vocal folds with a high speed 1050 nm swept source OCT and ODT

Vocal fold vibration is vital in voice production and the correct pitch of speech. We have developed a high speed functional optical coherence tomography (OCT) system with a center wavelength of 1050 nm and an imaging speed of 100,000 A-lines per second. We imaged the vibration of an ex-vivo swine vocal fold. At an imaging speed of 100 frames per second, we demonstrated high quality vocal fold ...

High-speed kymography identifies the immediate effects of voiced vibration in healthy vocal folds

INTRODUCTION  The effects of voiced vibration technique can be assessed by laryngeal imaging. Kymographic images derived from high-speed videoendoscopy allow actual visualization of vocal folds vibration. PURPOSE  The aim of this study is to identify the immediate effects of the voiced vibration technique in healthy vocal folds using high-speed digital laryngeal imaging. METHODS  Samples we...

Voice Recovery in a Patient with Inhaled Laryngeal Burns

Introduction: Laryngeal burns cause long-term voice disorders due to mucosal changes of the vocal folds. Inhalation injuries affect voice production and result in changes in the mucosal thickness and voice quality.   Case Report: A 47-year-old woman was transferred to our department with laryngeal burns sustained during a house fire. On laryngoscopic examination, mucosal waves of both vocal fol...

Vocal-fold vibration of patients with Reinke's edema observed using high-speed digital imaging.

OBJECTIVE We aimed to assess the vocal-fold vibration of patients with moderate-to-severe Reinke's edema using high-speed digital imaging (HSDI) and videostroboscopy and to confirm HSDI usefulness in examining the vocal folds with Reinke's edema. METHODS We examined the vocal folds of seven patients (six severe and one moderate; six females and one male; aged 55-74 years; mean 64.7 years) wit...

Contrasting Chest and Falsetto-like Vibration Patterns of the Vocal Folds

Using excised larynxes, a hemilarynx methodology was used in order to view vocal fold vibrations from a medial aspect. This was accompli shed by removing one fold, inserting a glass plate at the glottat mid-line, and mounting the remaining foId against the glass plate. A high-speed stereoscopic imaging system was used to perform the 3D tracking of small markers (microsutures) placed on the fold...
